Vinylclad Aluminum

I need some vinyl clad aluminum sheet in order to build a custom single stick transmitter. Does anybody sell this metal in small quantity?
Thanks for any help.

Try a sign shop. There is a sign base material that might help.

I just googled "vinyl clad aluminum sheet" (no quotes) and it came up with some good hits.

How about the stuff they nail on the sides of houses in the USA.

Hello, Andyone!

Yes, that is a pretty good idea. I do think that it might be a little thin and narrow for my use. Heck, I was thinking, why wouldn't a thin plywood case work? One could layer fiberglass over it to prevent scratches. Any negatives?

If you could get some siding material before it's processed that might be more suitable. As to the gauge of the material it wouldn't need to be more than 16awg.

There is no reason you couldn't use plywood or hardwood for the box. Put a good poly urethane on it and it will be durable.

Thank you!

Thanks for all the replies. I found a plasticbox at RadioShack. It's ny\ot perfect but I believe that the plywood box is the way to go for me.

There IS that Hammond 1455T1601 case you could try...

Dear Frank Hurd:

The PIPE Here, and when I spotted this thread and your desire to make yourself a KNOBBY RC radio (alternative name for a "single stick" radio, from its RUDDER KNOB atop the single joystick shaft) I literally "homed in" on your quest...

...and if you get a gander at the Adobe Reader PDF file I've attached, it's for the Hammond 1455T1601 case, an ideally sized 6-1/2 by 6-5/16ths by 2 inch dimension aluminum case from Hammond Enterprises of Canada.

Both Digi-Key and Mouser have this case, and it's about $27.00 or less for one of these.

British Columbia, Canada RC flier ANDY HORKA (RCGroups own "Jazzboy") has already used at least two of those cases for his own 2.4 GHz SpredSpec knobby radios that he's built at his blog...give those a good look, and see if you can use one of these yourself for your METAL knobby radio case needs!

Sure hope this helps...

Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE....!!

Thanks, Pipe!

I had visited Andy's site awhile back. Right now, I have a Kraft open gimble plastic single stick and a World Engines single stick. I have had a proline SS and a couple of Futaba SS(all had Ron Chidgey's stick assembly). The one that I like the best is the World Engines. It is super simple and has the right feel. And, I imagine was the cheapest to build. It has ceramic, old style servo pots. I know that this is a personal choice as the Chidgey sticks have always been considered the best and were certainly well engineered and constructed,ie., expensive!
I see that you and Andy like the old Ace style boxes. I've flown them and liked them. They are more "vertical" rather than "horizontal" like Proline and the Futaba. Did you see the Futaba NIB set that recently sold on ebay for over 2 grand? That's a little my budget!
Thanks, again, for the post!
