this brings back some horrifying memories from my high school days
i actually owned one of those.... kept it for one season... summer of 1983.
would be completely outclassed by a modern day UL-1 or vac-u-pickle.
this one is not stock, mine, new (i bought it from tower hobbies in feb of 1983), had a twin motor MRP 600 1.2:1 gearbox setup, not the direct drive shown, and the speed control was a mechanical two speed microswitch setup with two batteries.
the speed control on this ebay sale is a bolink rheostat setup.
even with the two motors and two batteries mine topped out at about 22mph, and ran for about 3 minutes on a set of batteries. i remember it had a plastic octura 427 prop. it didn't run well. it was incredibly finicky. the speed control with its two speeds was basically useless. too fast for the corners at full speed, too slow to plane at half speed.
a small note... the last photo is of a bolink friction style differential that was part of their 1/10th scale R/C cars of the same time period. probably where the owner got the speed control from.
