Receiver Getting Hot

I bought a new receiver/esc for my Super Cub DSM and it still gets really hot as soon as I plug it in. It will not bind either. The reason I bought a new receiver/esc was because the other burnt up due to water damage. The receiver/esc was the only thing getting hot. The motor was still cool.

What could be wrong?

can you try just the receiver/esc without anything else plugged in? it's possible something is putting a lot of strain/load on the bec (perhaps a bad servo)...

other than that, you'll probably need to separate that esc and rx and use the process of elimination to see which one is the cause.

The last time that happened to me, I accidentally plugged in the power supply (Battery/ESC) backwards. Reverse polarity will quickly heat up a receiver and destroy the circuit.

Please check if you accidentally plugged in the Batt/ESC with incorrect polarity. Even plugging in one correct polarity and the other to the Signal connection can ruin a receiver.

Perhaps Spektrum has a safeguard against this, I don't know. If so, then yours could be a different problem.

It still got warm withing a minute without anything plugged in. The receiver and esc are built as one for the super cub dsm.

As James has said, make sure your polarity is correct. If it is a new battery check to make sure the polarity is correct. They have been known to come from the manufacturer reversed.

I doubt it's polarity, since it's an all in one unit.

is it just slightly warm to the touch, or more warm to hot. if it's just slightly warm to the touch, I'd say it's perfectly normal. I'd start plugging in servos and see which one one causes it to get hot.

When i connect it to the battery with nothing connected to it it gets hot enough to burn you and when something is plugged in it is the only thing that gets hot not even the battery just the metal plate on top.

There's not many settings on those all in one units. I'd say it's defective...call or send it back to whoever you bought it from for a replacement.

OK. sounds like you have nothing to lose at this point, so try plugging the battery in reversed. If the battery was made with the connector and wires backwards then everything should work.

Otherwise you need to determine which pin on your esc is positive and which is negative then make sure the battery + and - are connecting to those pins.

On your ESC, the inside pin should be negative and one outside pin will be positive and the other outside pin will be the signal pin.

Don't plug in your battery backwards!
This is the all-in one, not a standard rx. the battery is right, it's a known issue to have bad rx bricks in the super cub. Send it back, you can't fix it yourself.

a question to you tat has not been asked. What kind of batt are you using. If the burst rate is to high it might be the reason it is over heating.I can remember if the cub is a 7.4v or a 11.1v
if it is a 11.1v the better batt will be something like a 3s 20cell 1200 - 1600 MAH.If you are using something like a 4s batt that can be the reason the burst rate will be to high
