I will fly whatever format you choose. I have no strong preference. Too short and I get tired. Too long and I get bored

David, when you say 7 minutes between groups, is this the time from the end of the 30 sec landing window until the launch horn of the next group, or until the start of the 3 minute warning? The latter would yield a total of 10 minutes from land to launch between groups. I personally like the longer time between groups, but if its 7 + 3, then I vote for 5 + 3 = 8 total. If its 7 total, then I like it!

Thanks.

Mike

I'm saying:

End landing window
4 minute prep time
3 minute flight test time
start horn

so, 7 minutes between the horns.

With only 3 groups, a 7 minute total pause is good.

Dave, in the TS proposal you mention that official timers will likely be inside the field for Poker. Will we have to tell them the nomination for each flight, i.e. make sure they hear it correctly? Will we have to go by their watch in Poker? or are they still just "checkers" and we still go by our helper's watch? I understand that in all "normal" tasks, the official timers are just "checkers" and will be mostly off the field.

9 pilots, 3 groups - we will have plenty of field space

The intent is that they are to be just checkers. That means you'll have to call loud enough that they can hear the nomination. They'll be trained to stay close to your timer/helper (not in the way) so I don't think that'll be an issue. The time used for scoring will be that from your timer/helper. Our guys are just to ensure that the pilots are calling correctly, and that the timer/helpers get the times recorded accurately. The pilots and helper/timers will not be able to see the official timer's card at any time in the contest. Also, at any time during our contest, if one of our official timers fail to get an accurate start or stop time in their timing of a pilot, that official is to note his failure, and that time will be excluded from the verification process.

Does that help clarify?

Dave

Don't worry. There will be plenty more sign-ups. Some of us just don't want to send in the $100 until we are 100% sure our schedules will allow us to be there. Mine will be going in soon.

Yes. You are pilot #9. That's a good number to have.

Poker should be as the worlds as far as writing down the nomination seemed to work well. What did you think. That is likely the way it will be again. You call your time out to your timer and he writes it down and hands to the TS timer. You should not have to yell out your time for the whole field to here, diffidently on your first flight.

I'm not saying you have to call out so loudly that the whole field can hear. I'm saying that the official timer should be close enough to the timer/helper that the pilot shouldn't have to increase his volume much if any, yet still not be in the way.
