So I have been re-shafting quite a few motors recently for various reasons and am just curious if there would be enough interest to start a service. Most of time I have been replacing a shaft that is too short and I wanted to maximize the bite on the adaptor. I can also install bearings from Boca if anyone desired to upgrade or just needed new bearings. Shaft material I have been using and is easy to work with is O1 tool steel. I is a little oversized so I grind it down by hand to fit snugly in the bearings of the particular motor I am re-shafting. I can do 3mm, 3.17mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, and 8mm shafts. All I would need to know is how far you need the shaft to extend. Since I mainly do this for EDF use I do not cut C-clip slots, nor do I have the ability to do so. If the shaft needing replacement is for an endbell propeller mount motor a Collar would have to be used. Priceing below.

$1 per bearing installed plus the cost of the bearing.

I find 1/8 spring steel [ music wire ] works good for shafts.
If you need to machine it, annealing it with a propane torch
and then rehardening it, is easy, but takes time. Cecil

3.17 is easy, buy 1/8" drill blanks , works great.

have u had good luck w/ boca? are they truly better or is it a crap shoot as w/ the oem bearings?

I have had great luck with Boca. Even the "cheap" bearings I have ordered have all been silky smooth. The more expensive ones and ceramics are even better. On some HK motors I have gotten the bearings felt like sandpaper right out of the box.

thanks for the info. seems there may be a market for your service to me . some of the cheapo motors are quite good but many time the bearings and or the shaft are lousy at best. good luck.

LOL. It’s not a business; I work for the government during the day. I just like to tinker and have become proficient at shaft fabrication, installation, and bearing replacement.
