That is interesting. The magical "let's be conservative and add 2kwh" is utter nonsense, and makes me wonder about the accuracy of the 6kwh per gallon number. But, if the 6kwh per gallon number is accurate, that makes them about even. Which is curious indeed. I'd like to see more information about the electric usage of the refining process. The more I think about it, the less I'm buying the 6kwh per gallon number.

I've seen various studies on this, and this story seems to be greatly lacking.

One glaring omission is they forgot to take into account the electricity used to make the batteries.

There are a number of studies out, including one by toyota (I linked it in some other threads here) that show when the total lifecycle of the vehicle is taken into consideration (ie production to disposal) the overall environmental impact of the electric vehicle is worse than convential.

That's just a start.

The other cost for electric use that has been left out is the loss of electricity due to resistance in the electric lines themselves.

Every mile of wire sucks up some power. Every time the electricity goes through a step down transfomer more power is lost.

Three of the sources for the story were governmen funded or government information - neither of which can be trusted to be unbiased or even true for that matter.

My comment stands. EVERYBODY has an agenda, and you have to read between the lines. I get "please send money, the world as we know it is ending" letters from both sides, and they're ALL full of lies.

Am I missing something here? When the talked about the gas vehicle, they talked about the electricity used to make the gas. When they talked about the electric vehicle all they talked about was the electricity to drive the car. They didn't talk about the coal/oil/gas to make the electricity. That article seemed to have a bit of an agenda, didn't it?

I wouldn't expect any agenda from "The #1 Solar News Network."

The comments to that article demonstrate where the author went wrong.
