Bone stock, I got a diving pass on 4s at just a hair over 110 (recorded with an eagletree elogger).

Then, I just threw a Thunderpower 3300 65c 5s in for fun (again, bone stock) and ended up at 124.1, downwind and out of a dive.

I love this plane!

Best,

Lucky you didn't toast the ESC. You definitely need a bigger ESC for safe 5S flights.
I agree though this is a fun plane!

I guess you are right - when we watt meter'd the setup it peaked @ 64 amps. The ESC was always cool, so it seemed ok but to each his own - the risks may be increased for others

Thanks!

Make sure you take video of your Habu on a 5s with a 60 amp ESC. We all like seeing the magic smoke come out of the plane.

If you don't change the ESC at least run an external BEC. This way when the ESC smokes you can save the plane. If you read the Original Habu thread they have tons of info on 5S setups.

-- OEM ESC runs just fine on 5s. Just keep it cool. Take the wing off and flush mount it in the intake duct. Helps with balance also. Ran mine on 5s on 90deg plus days.

--Stock location it gets hot on 4s

Question for new Habu 2 owners?

I'm using a 4000 ma pack and it's a little tall.
How much if any can I cut off the bottom of the canopy?
May only need an 1/8 inch.

Thanks to all!

Yes, just trim it with a sharp knife.

I use solder gun, pull tip off, use coat hanger bent to a square shape.Melts foam and leaves a clean area. You can cut a little or a lot at a time.

I have used both but reserve the soldering gun for pockets that have to be cut. The trick is to pulse the trigger and not overheat the wire and excessive melt the foam. You become the ESC with very slow PWM.

I bought a separate soldering gun for foam cutting from Harbor Freight. Price is $10-12 based on sales. Copper grounding wire salvaged from household wiring works great for custom cutters.
