F15 twin 50mm

Here are a couple of pics of the F15 I just maidened. Airframe is all laser cut Depron. My good friend Joe1320 convinced me the J Power 50mm fans, that I had two of, could actually make pretty good thrust and even handle 4s. So, that is what is powering this F15. I am useing a pair of Turnigy 20 amp esc's, two hs55's and an AR6100 rx. The first flights were made useing an 1800mah 3s nanotech pack but a larger batt is in order as the 1800 got pretty warm.

WS= 24" Length = 36" AUW w/1800 = 532gr 137 sq in wing area

A hand launch into a 10mph breeze was a non-event and she flew right out. A few clicks of up and left had her flying hands off. While not super fast on 3s, about 60 mph, she makes good thrust and will maintain a 60deg angle of climb until I backed out as she was getting small Rolls are fairly axial considering I am useing tailerons only for control. She is stable and predictable with a great dead stick glide path on landing. I have no doubt she will carry a larger batt, a coat of paint and an ordinance load.

Thanks killer

I am leaning towards the Bicenntenial Thunderbirds livery as it is light, high visibility and I already have the artwork as used on my F15umx pusher jet shown here.

A bit easier to see in the sky now The last flights have been made with a 4s 2200mah pack. The larger pack stays much cooler than the 3s 1800mah pack used on the first flights. Performance is also noticably better, about 10mph increase in top speed and she will really stand on her tail now.

John, is this the revision, or the CAD file I have?

looks great! I think I might need to do V2 if I am going to do the afterburnerz.

Given the availability of the JPower 50mm fan and motors, this could be a great kit for those used as twins. Twin EDFs, light weight, unlimited vertical, slows down nice. You could also add couple ailerons if the need arises. Fans are readily available, and dare I say it..... you could step it up to 4s and it would be such a rocket.......

You know me, guess which direction I'm going. 4s on those fans should consume 42-43 amps on average for a total of at least 550 watts. I think I would like to try a 4s 1800 mAh 40C lipo. It might not be heavy enough. Wide open will just be in burts anyways.

This one was cut from the drawings you have. The revisions have not been loaded onto the thumb drive yet. I can email you the updates if you would like them. You could export them as a DXF and take that file to the Arcitectural place you drive past twice a day and get full size print outs. Then you can wear out a half a box of #11 blades or wait for me to get back in the fall and cut you a kit.

What arcitectural place? I'm usually busy watching the road.

yeah.... I'm not going to be cutting one any time soon. I still need to put together the Yak, another A-7, the micro F4D, etc. Once I sort out the F4d system, I'll let you know the results. I think it may work with an ultra micro brick and a 5g brushless motor.

In the little strip mall across 27 from Veterans Park. At the north end. They have a large format printer.
