Arcyon: are you averse to building a kit? Mountain Models and Stevens Aero each have a number of planes that might interest you -- small, light, able to fly in small spaces, and fantastic flyers, each and every one. Both companies now have a nice lineup of micro sized planes (1-2 oz, 15-20" wingspan.)

I've built and flown a Stevens Aero LiddleRod and Lil'Squirt. They're both 3-channel but still fun to fly, and will handle winds of.. oh, maybe 5 mph or so without too much worry. I can fly the LiddleRod in a gym or in the cul-de-sac in front of my house. (I could do that with the Squirt as well if I were a better pilot or if I'd built it a bit lighter.)

Barring that, check out profile foamies from places like Depron West et. al. These will be extremely agile 3D-capable planes with ultra low wing loading, again suitable for indoor or small-space flying.

About me: I just got back into rc planes after many years. I picked up Phoenix Flight v3 and a DX7s to brush up my skills. Last weekend I took my new Dynam T-28 1200mm Trojan for a few flights and loved it. However, it is big and requires a lot of equipment to get airborne. I would love to have something smaller to just toss in the air or roll off a sidewalk to put around smaller grassy areas or in local parks, relatively worry free compared to the big 1200mm Trojan. A guy at my field had a lil ultra micro cub that he had so far in the air it looked like a speck in the sky. We were all amazed at how high it was!

My preferences are:

1) Wingspan between 15" - 32" give or take
2) Preferably a warbird, military trainer, or bi-plane
3) 1 - 2 cell lipo power supply
4) 4 channel
5) $120 price range
6) No 3D! I prefer scale or slow stable flying, not acrobatics

I have been looking at the Parkzone Ultra Micro offerings as well as FMS / Airfield 800mm series. Planes along these lines are what I am looking for. I do not want a speed demon. I want something I can put around with and enjoy without it being squirrelly and getting away from me.

Hoping you can help. I am researching it but would love feedback from people that have flown planes like those mentioned above.

Cheers,
Ary
i have 8 planes. 50 cc gassers down to electrics. My favorite plane out of all is the E flight mini ultra. its easy to fly u can land it in a very small spot. i fly mine at my house. it is very responsive and a blast to fly. try you tube and watch some videos on it. later

I'm thinking about getting into the fixed wing hobby with a UM T-28 or The Beast (oddly enough the same color scheme and name as my snow skis). I'm thinking the DX6 would be the TX to get as I've found a programmable TX to be awesome for my helicopters. Problem is that The Beast uses familiar batteries that I have a charger for while the UM T-28 uses E-Flight batteries that I would have to use their charger for, plus I don't believe the E-FLight batteries are switchable with other companies like Hyperion. Is there a way to adapt other batteries to the UM T-28? Or is there an adapter so I could charge the E-Flight batteries on my regular Li-Po charger?

um connectors are quite common. There are lots of options for batteries for the um t-28 and adapters to charge them on your charger are available.

I started with the Champ then went to the Parkzone UM Corsair. Both were good for their purpose, getting started in RC planes. They both held up to many crashes and with a little glue went right back together and up in the air within minutes. I also have the 800mm FMS P-40 and T-28, both of these planes are durable. I use 2s 900 and 3s 1000 batteries. They fly well with both. All the planes I fly from my house in a 10acre field. Besides changing the motors on the 800mm planes I never needed parts for them either. Some glue maybe. I plan on buying more FMS planes, for the money they are a good buy.

I love the fms 800mm T-28.
Make sure the elevator control rods are solid in their quick connect at the servo arm. Use loctite.
Also the front gear rod may need attention to keep it from binding.
I find with out gear it is a fine belly lander! Good luck Chris

Thanks! I have been thinking of scaleing down an E-flight ultra micro stick for a pk250 or rimfire 300. Here it is!
I understand the Mountain Models Hellcat is very tame. Chris

I own 3 horizon hobby um planes...champ, t28, and night vapor. Champ handles wind best, but is 3ch. T28 is god to 7mph wind or so. Both could handle more wind if they had more guts...which is why I am about to pull the trigger on the bh nano corsair.

Good luck.
Got the bh mustang. The motor went up in smoke during pre maiden flight checks. Bh ZERO help. Put in a pk250 (too powerful).
It flew like a brick and torque roll was not managable at my skill level.
The mustang has added weight over it's scale appearence.
I would not recommend it for limited space. Chris

But 15mph I would have thought 800mm would be capable. I owned a UM PZ Trojan and it was great, but I wouldn't fly in more than 7mph, 10mph tops.
Had the 800mm T-28 up in well over 10,15 mph air many times.
The 750mm P-47 does a bit better.
Both feel better with a 3 cell and a gws 7x5or 6 two blade prop.
Have crashed with tail winds. Must rember to keep the T up, no matter how fast it 'looks'the like the plane is going! Good luck Chris

I get a lot more flying in, when I am not looking for a place to land with gear.
I do use a 2 blade prop and still lose the odd one. Rather break a prop than a motor. APCs are great , but too strong. GWS units have a bit more give.
Aire time rules! Good Luck Chris

Oh when you pull out the front gear rod and guts, be sure to check your CG!

Transfer to the foam and in one or two days, you'll have a good flying plane.

the little red and white bipe is a stampe sv4b and uses the micro gear from a UM T-28. The rest all use the motor and radio you would use in the parkzone jenny or pup.
they all fly well in our 120' X 200' front yard and the Smith miniplane especially handles wind well and does snaps and spins well too.
The avro is a straight and level only flyer, but then so was the full sized.
The B-10 is kinda hot but still flys in the yard. It uses throttle differential instead of rudder.

Give it a try if you dare, I've used the incidences of the 3 views and a 33 percent cg with good results on all.

Nick
Nice Work, Thanks! Chris
