Flat Foamie for Beginner

Hello,

I am looking for a nice flat foamie to take the next step in my flying career. I have been playing around with my Champ, but it doesn't fair well in the winds of Chicago. Is there a good alternative for me at this time? I am looking for something I can fly in a park or even my backyard.

I have a Fun Cub and t-28 but those are a little big for the parks around my house.

Thanks,

Enthusiastic Beginner

Telink Yak 55M - Ido Segev (4 min 58 sec)

The telinks from twisted hobbys are pretty good for handling wind 10-15mph and while they are probably bigger than your t-28 and fun cub it can be flown in a much smaller area. I fly the 32'' models and love those but for a place like the windy city you might want a telink 44'' plane, i have the telink extra slick and it's pretty awesome, they also prepare you to fly a balsa aircraft, but the 32'' are probably better for a beginner.

cdamjam,

Build a 32" version of Leadfeather's Yak 55 out of 1.3 or 1.9#, 9mm EPP. There are many other flat foamies out there...all derivatives...all nice planes, but the Yak is the most imitated. You can build one less a transmitter for around $60.00 and just transfer the motor etc to a new one when you beat the original to death.

Winds are going to stay up there in Illinois until the temperature gets a little higher on the average across the state. I live 100 miles south of you and have only had a few quiet days even though the spring has been a lot warmer than usual. Good luck with what ever you decide on.

Regards,

Hankg

Twisted Hobbys - 32" Crack Yak! (3 min 48 sec)

For a front or back yard or small park, the little Twisted Hobby's planes are good. A 39 inch Twisted Hobby's plane could handle more wind if you had like two football fields worth of space to fly.

cd,

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=964237

All the info you'll need. Take your time and read the directions, watch the movies and have fun. If you don't want to cut your own, www.fancyfoam.com will sell you one already cut.

Have fun...

Regards,

Hankg

I have a West Michigan Park Flyers McFoamy XL as my first foamy, easy to assemble and flys great!!

I have flown it in my backyard as well as the local club field.

Greg @ WMPF can fix you up with everything you need to assemble your own or will build you a BnF.
