The purpose of my question was to overcome the loose use of terms and the ease of confusion that some people cause with their unclear statements. The 9X comes with FlySky SW. So this radio will have different SW than the 9X FlySky software.

Now you tell me it will be er9X, or something similar to er9X. So, by your own statement, you don't know what the SW will look like or what functions it will have. But you believe it will be something similar to er9X or something like that or some derivitive ... probably. OK but a far cry from KNOWING.

And we believe it will be able to be flashed with Open source software which may or may not need to be ported, if the open source community chooses to port to the 9XR. So there is no gurantee that there will be SW options, but it seems likely, probably, I guess. OK but a far cry from KNOWING.

I am on board. We don't know what SW it will have. And we don't know what optional SW there will be ... but we suspect.

Search is everyone's friend, but not always necessary. Sometimes we just have to distinguish between facts and opinions.

Until it is released, this is all opinion. When it hits the street, we will have the facts.
Actually we do have fact.

Anthony Hand, owner of Turnigy, OrangeRX, HobbyKing and various others, said himself "The 9XR will have the same chip as the 9X and will be able to be directly flashed with the same software as the 9X" He actually said this! In this case search IS your friend but since you are incapable of using go to pages 40-59 and it is stated somewhere in there.

Actually most of the facts are stated between pages 30-69 with useles dribble after that (except for picture of the case).

The reason Windows can run on different hardware is because the hardware is hidden behind another program, called a BIOS.

The OS on the 9X, 9XR and any other radio communicates directly to the hardware, no middle man. This means it can only work on one type of chip or it will have serious bloat.

Think before you post!
So, if it has the same chip, does that make it the same radio? I think not.

Just as my HP Windows 7 PC and my friend's Windows 7 PC are not the same because they both have Intel chips in them. And even if they have the same BIOS in them the are still not the same. But they may be similar. Just as a 9X and a 9XR may be similar in some respects, that does not make them the same.

You missed the quote that I was responding to. It is absurd to say it is the same radio just because it can run similar SW. Just as it is absurd to say the two PCs are the same just because they can run similar SW.

But your smileage will vary I guess.

He also said it would be released by now .. .but it is not.

And my friend, a few posts back said that the SW will/may have to be ported. So who am I to believe. The guy who promises a release date and doesn't deliver or the guy who is sure what the software will be ... sorta.

No need to convince me. As I said earlier, until it is actually released, all we have are opinions and speculations. When it is released, then we will have facts.

Believe what you like. I will wait for the facts to come out.

So if you took 2 PCs with exactly the same hardware components but a different case, they'd be 2 different PCs?
Probably yes.
It doesn't change a thing though. People saying the 9XR will be "like the 9x" means that as it will have the same hardware, it will have the same capabilities. That's what matters in the end.

Totally sounds like HK. Which is why they'll jut slap er9x on it - that way they don't have to care about that aspect

Not at all. All we are doing is debating opinions and half facts. Nothing malicious here. It is mostly what we do on the forums. We take what we know, what we think we know and we form opinions, then we discuss them.

This is especially true when it relates to unreleased products. It's fun!

You should come over to the glider forums and read the discussions on setting the CG of a glider. Now those can get really exciting with equations and wind tunnel reports and graphs and charts and stuff. I can see guys at the keyboards with their slide rules out checking facts .... opinions.

In the end you learn stuff and it helps you ... maybe. But it is definitely fun.

Unless the firmware was modified..
i think we can assume it will not come with an exact copy of any existing distribution for a variety of reasons. for one thing erez or one of the other developers would have been contacted and we might have heard something by now. kinda like what happened with rolfe bakke when hk adopted his code for their kk controller.

also as has been mentioned the current firmwares are not really ready for the average user. a few more of the sharp edges need to be sanded down. finally they are all being constantly updated so hard to aquire a moving target.

i suspect it will be some conglomeration of existing versions with rough edges removed and geared more for the majority of hobbyists instead of geeky "core group". at least i hope so. at the very least im sure they will come up with a cutsey hobbyking splash screen.

ps number of switches has little to do with whether the code will run or not. ive built functional 9x clones with NO switches, buttons, or display at all yet still able to fly a plane. in fact even the joysticks are not necessary for firmware to execute as i recently saw by hooking up nothing but an lcd. of course there was no practical use except to verify my display wiring prior to final hookup.

You play a little rough for my taste, sir.
If we can only use deductive logic and unambiguous documented facts, there's really nothing to talk about, you're quite right. But I already clarified my inexact language for your benefit once. I lack the energy to meet your standards and it's late here.

I'll comment when I've got one in my hands. Hopefully it won't be too unlike a 9X or I will surely be wasting my money.

My asus and dell BOTH have a core i5 460m, and they are IDENTICAL chips. Now the chips run the same software, but must receive it via different means.

The bios is set up so that is pretty much the hardware abstraction layer.

I don't think I was talking about you. I think I quoted Dave for that one.

Have I quoted you anywhere?

But I accept your assessment. Sometimes I can get a bit rough around the edges. Assessment accepted and appology offered if I offended you.

I herd the 9xr will get any rabbit pregnant if they are in a 2km radius of it being used and that it turns ex wives into unicorns and makes clowns wigs melt into pure gold, at least that's what I was told by a friend who herd it from the voice in his head who said it was on a blog somewhere, so once all those serious issues are solved I wouldn't expect to see it any time soon..

I think there are a couple of HK haters on the thread that aren't trying to contribute much but just stir the pot.

If they want to buy a $200 radio with telemetry then go ahead and buy it when FrSky releases it (and don't forget their date was going to be this year, but won't).

Those that say the 9XR is just a 9X are obviously just stirring as well.

It is a $50 (possibly later $80) radio that gives us unprecedented kit for the $. Also is coming with a modified open source firmware but can still be reflashed with ease!
