Looks like the newer Futabas with built-in handle/antenna...

I hope it has two things:
1) Module based (same as 9X)
2) Easy connection for telemetry without modification (no more adding resistors and converters etc for FRSKY)

Enlarged 9xr pic

I downloaded the Prototype Pic and enlarged it - a bit fuzzy but can see a bit of detail.

Well that's a bit disappointing. I was hoping that the LCD was going to be bigger than the current 9X's but now that I can see more detail it looks like the exact same size. Oh well..........

i am sorry for hobbyking, because i can guess they made a huge investment on 9XR and hurts any bad word, but to me it look ugly and full of mistakes
anyway HK is loaded, if 9XR don't success, i doubt it would happen anything...

when X12D become released (and if it really worth) i bet people is going to better invest the money on it

It all depends on your definition of success. The price will be right for many people to overlook the things you are being picky about. They will sell tons regardless of some questionable design choices.

the plastic handle is a big improvement over the old metal one which causes significant range reduction with some module/antenna setups. and much lower production cost. those who value form over function will disagree.

i think adam brought up the only really important point about making telemetry installation easier.

Any measured data for this? I have a Flysky 9x with original piggyback antenna on the module. I use it for electric gliders so some range is very welcome. No issues so far though. Turnigy 9x antenna is further away from the handle.

I would actually skip that 9x-r and get the Frsky radio with built in telemetry. You could always sell you're radio.

No regrets !
9XR will came with DSM2 as default, why you would limit yourself with this deprecated RF system ?
