Just bought my first Cub!

Hi guys,

Well, I'm usually a warbird guy (see avatar ) but I have always wanted a big ol' J3 Cub on floats. After looking around I pulled the trigger on this 71"/1800mm ARF:

Yeah yeah, it's cheap and not perfectly scale. But I'm just planning to do some fun flying with this one, and I liked the transparent red covering. I also like the fact that it seems to be built very light, unlike many Chinese BARFs which can be porky.

I'm trying to figure out what to put under the hood and I'm wanting suggestions. Again, it is to primarily be a floatplane, so I need plenty of power but not enough to rip the wings off...maybe. I have some 5S 4000mah batteries lying around...any thoughts?

Thanks.
Spencer

Try this, which I run in my goldberg cub (about the same size) on 5s-

That motor/ESC, a 5s 4000mah lipo, and a 12x8 prop. Flies great, running around 45A WOT with 60 degree vertical ( on a 7 lb plane)

How are you doing the battery hatch? I have the earlier version of the anniversary cub (AKA before it was an anniversary cub ) and had to make the windshield removable and a hatch in front of the cockpit.

I'll probably have to do something similar with mine, otherwise I'll have to remove the wings to change batteries.

I'm going with a budget motor along the lines of Turnigy or the like. The Headsup motor Endlesslag recommended looks great but is out of stock. I can wait for it though.

What servos do you have in your Goldberg Cub?

I found a couple of pics of the V-Lite on floats, by the way. Looks nice!

Ok, thanks. Those look good.

Any thoughts on which one of these motors would be best suited to my application?

We ain't got there yet! The plane was almost done with an OS 46 glow and
things got put back a bit, family matter.

Brad wants to get it all done and see where the battery needs to be and then
we will deal with the battery location. Removing the windshield would be bad!
Lots of rivets

We are looking at maybe a hatch just in front of the LG.

Sorry, just saw your question.

We have Tower standards. We get them by the dozen. $115
