What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
Some of you may be aware of my involvement with RCAPA and the effort to persuade the FAA to allow commercial use of Slow Stick type RC aircraft for aerial photography.
Amidst complaints of safety issues, which we addressed many times over, the FAA has steadfastly refused to allow this type of activity regardless of voluntary restrictions ect... On the grounds of safety of course.
It soon became apparent to me that the real issue is to prevent upstart competition against well connected defense contractors that have a keen eye on the potential market for civilian use of their military built systems. The fact that a Slow Stick can, in many cases, produce better results at a fraction of the cost and much higher level of safety kind of gets swept under the rug.
Well now the Emperor really has no clothes......
Well at least it is not that dreaded scourge of the skies, the unruly Slow Stick.
