Pylon Racing 2012

UPDATE:

Class Rules

The class rules for the 50mm EDF's will be

Any SkyAngel 50mm EDF airframe
3S1000 battery max (you will need a min of 850mah to complete the 10 laps)
No resizing of the airframe outlines
You can paint but no film/tissue/tape covering of airframe
Fan / motor unit must be stock with exception of adding the 5 blade rotor from (who sells it?)
Wheels or no wheels
Rudder addition is permissable
External payloads not required on airframes that include them.

10 laps around the 400 foot wide course.

Warbird Class

Rick D. , Jim V. and myself have talked about getting pylon racing started at the AMA. We have had some conversations with a few of the board members regarding this and they are recepetive to it. We still have the portable pylon stands from GQF and can set up in the lower portion of the parking lot facing the berm or possibly in the future at the berm just past the runway.

Here is what I am thinking.

Keep it cheap, easy, fun and inclusive to as many people as possible. If it becomes popular a more advanced class could be added at a later time.

Airframe specs: Prop foam kits, 16 oz min take off weight to 32 oz max take off weight. Examples - PZ T-28, PZ P-51, Airfield 800mm wardbirds or any other purchased kit that will comply with the above specs. The specs are wider than usual but for good reasons that encourage participation.

3S2200 battery max

2.4 GHZ radio only

I don't have a start date yet but would hope to begin shortly.

Who's in for some pylon racing!

Might be a good baseline on the rules.

Ok, found my pylon racer. Should have the airframe by the end of the week.

Bought the PZ p-51 airframe only from National Hobbies. If there is enough interest they will make us a deal on these airframes to help us out with the pylon racing.

Plan on using my Hacker setup out of the gemini which is around 350 watts if I remember correctly.

I will post more info on the races once I talk to the AMA.

That's a fast air-frame. Remember that one with a power10 I had, it was pretty darn fast. Hand launcher though.....

I just bought a new T28 but am not looking to race it. Maybe I'll try to get that hellcat going again, I hate it.

If I could swing a deal where anyone competing in the pylon races could by airframe parts cheaply would you race?

Matt
