torque 2818T/900 question

Hey guys, i posted something similar to this in 3d flying but haven't really got any response.

So im running a 35 amp air boss on this motor with my 45 inch edge. I am a little underpowerd so I upped the prop size to a 13x6.5. I am now pushing 32 amps on ground (25 or so in sky) but my esc is running hot on landing. Its on a 3 cell by the way. Anyway I was going to upgrade to a 45 amp esc and stick with this set up but now im thinking of running 4 cells. The site says this motor has crazy power with 45 amp speed control, this motor and a 4 cell. Weird thing is im pushing 32 or so amps with a 3 cell and the motor says rated to 35 amps. Im afraid that a 4 cell will overload the motor.

Has anyone ran a 4 cell on this motor? if so what are the results? I would be going back down to 12x6 prob but still think i would be pushing the motor's limit

Here's a DriveCalc run for the Torque 2814T-820 that is close to your motor. On 4S, using a 10x7 APC E seems to provide good operating parameters with a lower draw and good efficiency. Always use a watt meter to verify your setup.

Yeah, I was thinking of just getting that motor but since I already have this one and a 45 amp esc was just going to give this one a go if i could.

13x6.5 would be WAY too much prop for the 900kv motor on 4s, you would be pushing about 80A An 11x5.5 would be more like it but probably still pushing a little over 35A.

+1. The 11x5.5 ought to be a good choice on 4S.

Here is a DriveCalc run using an 11x5.5 on the same stand-in motor as above. Thrust is a little better than the 10x7 with just a small drop in efficiency.

Interesting Drive calc graph though I was actually talking about the 900kv 2818T/900 motor that the OP owns, not the 820kv 2814T/820. If you put the 900kv in DriveCalc then the amps would no doubt be a bit higher but probably still acceptable in bursts.

FWIW I actually own the 2814T/820 motor and on 4s it's far and away best on an APCe 12x6 prop. On a fresh battery It pulls 45-46A for around 680W with that prop which is fine providing you dont fly around at WOT all the time.

Here is the run for your motor on a 12x6 APC E. It appears to closely match your measurements. The OP's exact motor is not in the program yet.

Thanks a lot, I'm not sure if i'm reading the charts right but i see what you are saying. I would definitely go down on prop size with a 4 cell. I may just borrow a 4 cell this weekend and amp test it on meters.
