Reccomendation for Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 – 2822-1090kv alternative?

Hi,

I'm designing and building a quadcopter using an arduino programmed from scratch. I've taken a look at quite a few builds and the Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 – 2822-1090kv with 8″x4.5 props seems to be a popular choice for the size/weight range I'm looking at.

However, HobbyKing seem to be out of them, plus I'd rather order from somewhere in the UK.

Could anyone suggest a suitable alternative to this motor please?

They look good, are they the closest alternative? I see the prop size reccomended for those is a 9 x 3.8, would an 8 x 4.5 be ok on it? If my goal was to run 9 x 4.5s then what would your reccomendation be in that case? Thanks

Edit: I've just read some threads on the KEDA motors, some people say the build quality isn't that great and the bearings can be a bit dodgy - my budget is £15-16 a motor so perhaps there are higher quality alternatives?

If you hadn't mentioned your budget, I would've recommended original Hacker A20-50S. Soooooo smooth!

I run keda2050's with 8" props (never tried with anything higher) and they're great. Never had any trouble with bearings? I usually crash long before bearings have any chance to break. That said, I have a few models with these with hours of flight time and no issues.

I highly recommend A20-50S, my best small motor so far.

The A20-50s do look nice, although at £35 a piece they're a bit too much for my first quad (especially given the probability of me crashing it)

I agree with timecop, I think the Keda A20-50S are a good choice in this weight/power/size range. It's just that their availability is pretty spotty. If you decide quickly, I think there's still a total of 30 of them available at Hobbyking right now.
I agree that the real Hackers are over the top for a beginner who just wants to start out learning. You should have no problems with the Kedas. Just buy one or two extras in the rare case that something is wrong with one of them.

Thanks for the advice I've ordered five Keda A20-50S from Hobbyking and some 12A Turnigy Plush ESCs from elsewhere. Time to get this build going
