Rewound motor, now it wont rotat 360 degrees, it goes forth and back...

Hi,

This is my first time re-wounding an brush-less motor, it's a little HP03T (12 magnets).
It's wound like in this picture:

Now when I start it, it won't rotate 360 degrees, but it rocks forth and back (vibrates) so I messed up something, but what?
I'm sure I wound the different wires on the right tooth, and almost 100% that I did them all in the same direction..

If I knew what causes the motor to not rotate but wag back and forth I could find my error and learn, so any help is very appreciated.

#1 test to make sure you didn't break any of the wires...use meter to test each of the phase wire.
#2 test for shorts (do a search here on RCG...there zillions of thread on how to test for shorts)
#3 carefully trace your wiring schema and make sure you didn't skip or do 1 too many tooth. I usually use 3 color winding wires which make this easier to spot.

it's most likely #3 when all it does is swing back and forth.

I've re-wounded with a smaller wire and the same number of turns as stock, measured to be 100% it's no short... still vibrating.

So I tested another motor.. same result, seams like the esc is toast!

A shorted motor WILL fry an ESC. So, you may have a shorted motor and now a bad ESC too.

Did you test for shorts with an ohmmeter?

I find when testing, mount the motor and hold the esc. If the motor doesn't rotate, and the esc gets hot, shut if off straight away.

That is an ABCABCABC wind terminated Wye, all turns on all arms should go around the arms in the same direction. Here is another image of the wind that might show that a little more clearly.

If that is right you almost certainly have a short or a bad connection at the Wye bundle or one of the motor connectors.

To test a motor, use your largest ESC and only open the throttle one or two clicks momentarily. If the wind is good the motor will start and run immediately. If it does not start immediately don't give it more throttle or keep trying, that is when the ESC can be damaged.
