Question
Is a Blade 400 a decent bird? Used one locally for cheap...

I was looking for a bigger electric heli on CL.. Just seeing what was out there.

I found this one a couple towns over:

Comes with everything in the pics.. It doesn't have a TX or battery - he said the battery blew up on the charger. He was asking $100 for this and I got him to agree to $80.

I know it's not the latest and greatest, but is it worth $80 + battery to chuck around? I already have Spektrum TX so all I would need is a battery...

What do you guys think?

No it isnt the latest and greatest but for 80 dollars and spare parts I believe you cannot go wrong. Especially for a practice bird. I bought a nip trex 45 pro to practice stunts on as my storm 450 3g birds i dont want to crash often. Good Buy!

That is a great price! If you are just starting out I think it is better to buy a decent used bird with some spares, and save your $ for buying more "spares". Thats what I did.

Yeah I'm going to grab it on Monday as long as seller doesn't back out.

I am not just starting out, I am decent with helis, been flying them for a while. I mainly wanted a bigger heli to practice 3D on than my MCPX.

Should fit the bill!! And worst case I can throw it on ebay if I don't like it.

Thanks for the advice

Got it!

Came with lots of spares. Few main shafts, three sets of blades (one carbon), three booms (one carbon) four feathering shafts, and lots of other smaller parts.. Heli seems good condition - looks good to me!!

Ordered two Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 20C Lipos. Hope they're OK.. I guess I should start reading,. hahaa

So I got the 400 home and inspected it. Heli looks pretty good, no visible damage, everything appears setup properly.

The contents of spares:
- misc servo horns
- stock 3s charger
- 4x feathering shafts
- bag of misc hardware
- 4x main shafts
- tail shaft
- 3x flybars
- 2x aluminum booms / 1x CF boom
- 1x stock vertical stab / 1x 3D vert stab
- 1 set new wood blades / 1 set new align CF blades
- aluminum hub (stock?)
- 2x flybar paddle control rods
- 2x flybar frame arms
- 1x blade grip

It's going to be a long wait for the two battery packs! I can't wait to spool it up!

I am using Futaba 9C with Spektrum Module. It has the stock 420 motor in it, stock pinion I believe. All electronics look stock. I DL'd the manual, but usually that's just a base line. I have to do some reading on optimal setups.
