Nzl-32

Just finished a build of NZL-32. Still waiting on decals. At the moment spending a lot of time trialing and fine tuning, mast positions, sails, etc. Used 4mm 316 stainless steel for deck plates, shrouds stainless steel. All heavy duty to withstand winds up to 25+ knots where I live. I'm right on the water, tidal sea, variable sailing conditions all the time, keeps you on the alert all the time.Youtube link to yesterdays Trialing of NZL-32, wind gusts were up to 20 kph.

Very Nice!

I love the way these boats can take a beating! I live on some big water and have the most fun just over 10 knots with my NZL-92.

Good luck with the tuning!

Looking real good ...where are you sailing, looks like lake Pupuke on Nth Shore ?

My NZL-32 sails very well in 20 knts, but need to have moveable ballast set near stern (C.G aft) to prevent submarining in these conditions.

Cheers Alan

I'm the same with the ballast. With the extra ballast yacht weight is 4.7kg. Have been reading a lot about weight, pending how it is used its not always going to be a slower yacht ie; balanced out with sails etc.
I live in Tauranga, a city perfect for sailing. Regards.

Quick Tip: Try having two bulbs, one having C.G in normal position aligned with C.B and then have second bulb 15-20 mm aft of the C.B line for heavier wind conditions.

To get her on sailing on LWL then have hull ballast just in front of mast box. I do this with my I.O.M and AC 120's now and they are much more stable with this set up & track like they on rails with bow wanting to stay up (not dive) with wider & lower C.G weight distribution.

No rocking horse motion of the hull gives better sail C.E better effieciency.

Cheers Alan

Thanks Alan, been thinking along the same lines as you. Much appreciated. I was out on NZL-72 the other day and had a very close feel of how the guys had her sailing. Not much difference is there in 1m and 25m when it comes to getting the ultimate performance from your yacht. Regards.

Can you post the fern graphic you have used ? I can't find that one anywhere & I would like to use it with next NZL-38 AC 120 project.

Cheers Alan
