Hi guys. I just bought my first glow plane a Phoenix scanner. I was wondering how do you guys attatch the wing without damaging the tail feathers? Do you use a stand or some thing? If so has any one got plans for a cheap one to use to be able to put in the back of the ute to get it to and from the field? Every other plane at the field is practically a boomerang 60 so I will be the first one to fly one there. ( I am also the youngest at 15)any ideas will be appreciated.

I think most people either use a field box with cradles on top, or one of the foam cradles to support the fuse while attaching wings.

Any plans for a field box with a cradle? I need to make a field box any way.

I wouldn't think it would be hard to make one.

Hobbico makes both an assembled and a kit version of their Ultra-Tote. Great Planes also makes an assembled Master Caddy. They use to offer it as a kit, but discontinued it. You find one of kicking around. Both are more than just a plane stand and are well suited for nitro use.

I have a master caddy and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I set it up with the power panel and a hard wired fuel pump an it's got the cradles on top. VERY handy.

Depends on the plan I guess. For my Escapade I just gently lay it on the canopy and tail. You don't want to abuse your planes but they're not new-born baby unicorns... they should be strong enough to lay on their back. Heck if you nose over on landing they will take a much harder hit than that.

On the other hand when I'm done with my P-51D it will be about 6 months of work. I will not be laying on it's back.

As a quickie to use as a sample and temporary stand, just take a cardboard box and cut some "U" shaped holes in each end and set the plane in it. When you get it the way you like it , make one out of something more solid. ENJOY !!! RED

It would be good if it also be used to get it to and from the field in the back of the ute. It is usually my dad and I in the ute. The wing will fit inside the cab but the fuse will have to go in the back

I finally broke down and bought an Ernst stand. Someone else had one at the field and I liked it a lot. Cheap and does the job. Even has trays underneath the plane so you don't lose the wing bolts, etc.

I just put the nose on my shoe and hold the plane like a cello, holding the wing in front of me and the plane and install the bolts, no problem.

Does it come with some type of padding so it's not just the plastic scratching around on the plane? Doesn't matter jus curious...

Designed to use the fuse inverted too, to mount the wings.
