Okay, here's a start.
Not sure when I'll get a good chance to try outside in zero wind again.
Been very windy lately.
I did get to hover practice my Esky Belt CPV2 out there today for some 20 minutes in the wind. :-)

Was around 5-10 and gusts to 15 or 17.

I'll practice circuits someday when it's not windy.
I can at least fly the CP now without crashing but it's not much more than hovering for me right now :-)

Steve, your skills look plenty good enough to fly circles and figure 8's. Actually, your indoor/small space flying was pretty impressive. Now I really want to see your heli problem outdoors, as it's hard to imagine that heli not being capable of consistent fast flight.

Wind 35mph gusting to 50 right now.
That'd be an awesome video!
Was difficult just to carry it from the car into the office without getting damage. :-)

It's pretty hilarious how much I pay attention to the wind now, when for years I never really noticed.

There's going to be wind socks installed everywhere I hang out.

I was greeted with yet another 'surprise' on this heli today..
What appears to be an actual oil/fluid leak!!
Definitely was NOT expecting that, and I started a new thread on it here:

This is probably going to be the cheapest way for me to fix the piece of crap's
Pathetic 60 FT. range from the TX.

..and just use my Esky TX. *sigh*

Just a better RX? Isn't your RX integrated into the 5-in-1 board?

On the blade grips, my blade grips (450) sound similar; I don't think the blade is supposed to do much more then align its self (centrifugal force). So shouldn't need a bearing. (I have limited knowledge here, of course).

Maybe after the parts "run in", you will stop having aluminum grit/oil drips.

I believe the problem is the 2402 (or 2403?) has a much weaker signal than other Walkera transmitters.

2402 is around .5mW
It's terrible.

I think the 2403 and 2401 are the same low power level.

I'd like to change it out for an esky 4 in one But I don't know if the coaxial
proportional output will be...

Well you get the idea it won't work.

The main motor is bigger than the one of the motors on the coaxial..
and the tail motor is quite smaller..
I'm sure the 4in1 on the Walekra is designed for this where as the
one from the coaxial is not..

I'd expect the bigger motor to overload the built in esc output on the esky
4inone.. and the drive levels and proportional levels to be completely wrong..

I'm a newb but I can figure out how things work.

I'd also like to just put an alterhante RX on it but..
But as soon as I do that I bet I need a TX with totally programmable curves to
manually setup the tail motor rate/ compared to the main ans such.

So really if I go this route need something nice like a spektrum (hate that spelling)
TX and RX...

And then... you can't hook the RX direct to the motors, I'd need TWO
ESCs which would add some weight :-(

GRRRR.....

And then for the crap of me I can't find ANY current rating on the
Walkera brushed motors anywhere :-(

I need to known which ESCs I can use whil still tryin to keep them small and keep the weith down..

Of course if I'm going through all this trouble... I shouldn't be even messing with the two brushed motors but should be getting brushless motors and matching escs..

ANd heck why stop now... really should be going with 3c and 11.1V battery and esc (for more power)..

And we're not done yet.. that blasted 45Degree head really needs to go
doesn't it.

And I still don't have a gyro (for the tail)..

I'n guessing I really don't need it if I program the rate/tracking half-way decent..
Or just get good at giving some rudder when I go up & down fast..
Already have to do that on the 180 anyway.

Finally!! a crash that I can actually take credit for..
Had it going forward nose in around 20Mph..
Misjudged it's height and plugged a large Douglas Fir timber @that speed.

The crash and view was absolutely spectacular the parts went flying quite far in the shape of a good firework explosion! :-)

Even thought not happy with the heli I've learned to manage it's capabilities and unfortunately have to fly it much slower than it can go..
It will go VERY fast, but you seriously can't pull out of it once it's moving after a certain forward speed the thing is pretty much history.
This particular crash was not due to this problem..
I misjudged the height while trying to clear the beam.
Saw it coming but the climb during forward (when executed) was not fast enough to get out of the way.

Seriously, that's a spectacular accident. You didn't happen to have your camera tucked into your hat this time, did you? Would've made a great video.

I really wish I did but this was just a fun indoor flying session at a very large place
where they build timber frame homes.
I didn't have my FrankenActionCam handy this time :-(

It would have been an awesome video if taken in HD.
As I had it coming straight at us going pretty fast when it hit the
beam head-on at about eye level around 25 feet out in front of us.

Brutal Dude!

Sorry about your loss. But it did not die in vain. Now you don't have to worry about converting from coaxial to fixed pitch (or swapping the electronics, etc. with another's).

Differential coaxial drive to two motors is going to be quite a bit different then a head and tail rotor configuration. And different again from a 'quad. All sounds very interesting in an engineering/CS sort of view...
