Anybody that knows or has been following my builds (or lack there of) knows that I've been crazy busy working on a CNC setup. This project started about two years ago and this past month I've finally taken delivery on one of the last revisions to what I hope will be a handy machine for making foam aircraft!

Now, I've made at least two other airplanes with a very similar setup, including a FW190 and P47 Thunderbolt, but this is technically a new machine and a new setup as there has been some major improvements!

So I hope to show what it will do, if you would tolerate a build log for an oldy but goodie, and one of my favorites an F6F hellcat, as my last one ended up looking something like this after a failed bungee launch:

Part of the new CNC setup includes a new stand as I believe 8020, while nice has limits and tends to get expensive in a hurry. The new stand is really nice and assembles pretty much only one way, all for legs have a lot of adjustment for self leveling and there are outlet "punchouts" if your electrical skill set are feeling like they need to be used... Pics say a lot more I think!

Here is a video of cutting the cowl plug, the plug will need to get glassed, or I may coat it with the styrospray stuff, not sure yet.

I'm recently off RC modelling doing other weird stuff with my router!!!

All parts are sized below 10x10x5mm and made from brass material!!!

Very cool stuff! I have seen that neat gear / cog system yours for that one watch, that was really cool!

Wow, TVc, your skill and dedication continues to amaze me. Nice looking mill set-up you have there. ----Cant wait to see what you come up with next! Get that Hellcat done, I want one.

Ok today I cut a canopy plug and a fuse, got it assembled already! I love building out of foam!
Tomorrow I'm going to try to styro spray the plugs, hopefully my old stock is still good, if not I'll need to order some more...

Hate to get off topic but are you planning on selling plans of of the P40 any time in the future on your website?

Things are starting to move forward on my end, I would expect to get back to that one very soon! The biggest hold up is what to do with the spinner... Of course, for only plans, I can let the builder worry about that! All I have to do is keep putting off a p38, p61, bristol, 25, and 17... sheesh!!

I have the model worked out for the 40, but I want to redo the wings.
The biggest factor was time, but with my new system things get hustled!

For example,
The Hellcat canopy plug was modeled up in Sketchup per the , from that point, start the clock, I made some minor changes to make the plastic come off the plug easier from the back, then I generated the NC Code for the machine (out of Sketchup). I thew some foam into the machine and hit go. Took it out did some light sanding and the total time was 40 min to hold the plug you see in the picture above! 40 min total time for a carved plug, when I threw the frisby for the dog for about 15 min of it just leaves me with goosebumps!

Tonight I will be generating code for cutting the wings, I have the model done and foam ready to go so if all goes well, I have some shots of them tonight / tomorrow for ya.

And yes it is MPF
I will be ordering more
