My DJI F550 landing gear

I finally had some time last week to do some machining. I was able to cut some pieces of a landing gear design I had drawn up a few weeks ago.

Here are some photos of it attached to the F550. The interface plate is universal so that it can also attach the underside of the F450 frame as well.

The GoPro is hard mounted to the underside shelf on the landing gear.

I have since shortened the carbon fiber tubes on the bottom (from 24" down to 18") so they don't protrude into the GoPro's field of view.

Of course as soon as I had everything assembled, we get hit with rain and wind here in Socal, so I'll have to wait for another day to shoot some onboard video.

Here are a couple of short videos of it flying and a quick onboard video with the GoPro:

Cheers,
Leon

Those look good.
I just finished mine from X468
I think I have a bad Savox gimbal pitch servo since it's twitchy and I'm still working on the gains.
made a quicky test video

With all my FPV gear and 4500 4s battery it weights 2388 grams. It will be more when I get a decent camera.

Ya,
That GPS Tracker is going to be the best $45 I ever spent if this thing ever flies away.

Thank you; the as built weight was around 550g. I had to use whatever material I had laying around. I could shave another 150g or so if I optimize things a bit.

Cheers,
Leon

Ya, I know.
I might ditch the gear and gimbal, that would take a lot off. I was happy with mounting my helmet camera between the frames.

Just curious, at what weight should one start to think about 4S batteries?
I'm at 2100g (with 3S batt) at the moment and thinking of switching over to 4S.

how do you like the x468 gear?
ive been looking for a better mount for my gopro.
and if you are concerned about excessive weight go up to a bigger motor 2814's should be good @ 4s.

Those look nice. I really like the styling on this design.

I'm trying a little different approach...a totally homemade landing frame with skids. All parts are finds around the barn.
I'm using 2" x 4" Galvanized wire to make my landing gear cage or body. It stands 10" tall and 12" wide at the skids. It's shaped like a saddle tree with a flat top. The skid holders are from (the) continued wire sides which flare outward and form concave receptors for mounting foam skids. I have the body reinforced with wire panels and struts..all wire. Two wire shelves underneath the top panel can carry batteries or whatever. I will attach a 1/8" plywood rectangle to the top for mounting to the F550 Hexadrone. (and maybe on the underside shelves, too) I haven't decided upon a mode of attachment proper, yet. I think I'll drill holes in the wood top which coincide with the top board of the F550. I plan to spray paint the entire thing black...with contrasting color foam skids...neon blue.
It's really steady/sturdy and is light-weight...and is much better than the DJI plastic stock legs. I'll try and take photos when my camera arrives if anyone is interested. (I'm on a tight budget, you see)
