Thinking of tearing apart my quad and building a tricopter. I was wondering if a tricopter is aerobatic? Can they do flips and rolls etc?

Thanks people that's what I was hoping to hear. I have been researching and see that tricopters are huge compared to my 500mm quad. Each arm on the rc explorer v2.5 is 500mm. Can it be made smaller or will it be too unstable?

At 32" motor to motor it is doctile,...... yet still aerobatic, at 10" motor to motor it is wild with only a kk board..... but flyable..

I'm trying to make with the materials that I already have. The biggest I could make it would be 18" motor to motor. No camera or anything just sport flying around the field. What do you think of that size? With a KK board.

the smaller it gets the more fun you can have with it. what I mean is less turning radius compared to a longer arm tri.

I had a 19" that was fun till the trees ate it........Good size for fun, still pretty stable with only a kk...

It was watching tretch's videos that inspired me to learn tri aerobatics. Definitely need a smaller motor to motor distance for more responsive moves (50-60cm is ideal) but most of your performance will come from a good flight controller like multi wii.

+1 for the t-copter, better for orientation.

Hi Folks!

I have been into multicopters for several months now and have built hexas, quads, and tris.

I am hitting a plateau and getting bored with standard flight so I want to do some tricks like flips, rolls, etc, but I need some help getting started.

I put together a tri on which to practice aerobatics:

• 18" motor-to-motor
• 1000kv motors
• 8X4.5 prop
• KK board
• 20Amp ESC
• 3S battery @ about 30C
• Turnigy 9X

That's all well and good, but still stuck--can some one please help with the following:

• What is the best firmware for aerobatics on a KK tri?
• What are the best Turnigy 9X settings?
• Is there anything wrong with my setup that may be bad for aerobatics?
• Any how to's or YoutTube training videos on *how* to do these tricks??

Mcashatt, for aerobatics with a kk there is the 1.6 acro firmware available with the lazy zero flash tool. For the radio start with 100 % rates and something like 40 % expo on roll n pitch. This firmware gives a lot more agility so be careful with the first flight.

Your setup should be fine, the only thing that stands out is the frame size which is small and will be difficult for orientation. I prefer something like 60-70cm motor to motor. I used to think smaller the better up until recently when i built an 80cm tri for fpv, its actually very good for acro the big frames is easy to see and follow during aerobatics. It really comes down to the power to weight ratio but mostly radio/flight controller setup.

With the kk the amount of gain dialled in to the pots directly affects the amount of travel for roll n pitch so you need a fairly low gain to throw it around. The trick is to find the right balance of rates/expo/gain so that it has enough agility for tight loops n rolls but also so that it is not too twitchy and difficult to fly in between. Buy lots and lots of props......
