What did You use in your Magic?

Getting the Magic ready, and am wondering - looking at the size and deflection of the 4 control surfaces:

What servos did You use in your Magic?

Different ones for ailerons vs Rudder and Elevator?

How many flights have you had on the model? Any problems with the servos?

I ask because my "advisor" suggested that HS 81's would not, in his opinion, be adequate.

Thanks!

Terry

Your advisor would have a heart attack if he saw what I'm using then. I have 2 of the Naro MAX (19oz inch) servos on the elevator and rudder, and 2 of the Naro HP(25 oz inch) on the ailerons. The reason I did this was to save some weight, and I'm using a 8:1 gear ratio with the pitch speed in the low 40 mph at max throttle. I also am using the Magic as an E3D trainer, so I don't have the throws at maximum either. Having a slow model and short control throws allows you to use smaller servos. Your HS-81's will be fine as that is what most people around here are using.

Hey Fred; How about a few more details on your F-12 setup. Ive been running an Endo with a 6:1 on 10 cells but also happen to have an F-12 laying around and was considering the Magic as a good place for it.

Fred -

Where are you using the 81's and where the 225's?

How many cells are you running? Prop size? Gearing?

Oh - and just how many F-12's DO you have?

Thanks

225's for the rudder/elevator and the 81's for the ailerons. I have no issues with them having more than enough power.

Sorry I only have 1 F12 right now. But there was one on EBay for $199 yesterday, and the seller has a good rep.

F12 on 10 cells and a 14-5 prop puts out 80 ozs of thrust at 40mph and 345 watts out at 40 amps. I think that will do quit well on a 55 oz plane.

Plus I know I am not pushing the motor at all and can push the motor to 50 amps easy

Thanks to all -

I will use HS 81 mg on the ailerons, and the Futaba 9601's (that I already have) for the tail.
