Prodij-HM from aeromod.eu

I was looking for a high performance glider for mini-slopes, "everyone" slope contests, for some F3F practise and bungee at light to medium conditions.

After looking around for a while in January and February I decided to order the latest creation from aeromod.eu: Prodij-HM (rustique version).

Decision guidance from Alexis Marechal was great and from order to delivery it took only just less 3 weeks (thereof 7 days on the road with French and German postal services...).

As this model is very new on the market I would like to start a build thread where all of you are invited to join and to exchange experience regarding building and flying this very nice 60" slope racer.

PS: because of several personal commitments and other limitations my build progress will be pretty slow for at least the next two or three weeks...

build started ;-)

This morning I had a bit time before work to start with the build - AT LAST .

Linkage for ailerons bent, clevis balls soldered, very simple spar webbing in ailerons built to curb resin where it should be when gluing aileron linkages.

After work have to buy a 8mm pine bar for aileron servo mounting.

Will upload some photos when finished this first step, hopefully tonight...

aileron section

It's my first mini mouldie with this little space for servo and linkage . And I thought my F3F and F3J planes have little space ...

So I thought quite long time about the best aileron linkage.
I had several ideas, but I came back to the method shown on Alexis' website.
To be honest I do not like this kind of open linkages on the bottom side very much.
But this is a "little effort implementation" and easy to maintain.
So at the end of the build I will build a coverage to prevent the servos from damage when landing in higher gras.

aileron linkages glued in

Aileron linkages glued in.
Fitting accuracy is not too bad.
Made the linkages pretty short to reduce air drag for covers to be built as much as possible.
Let's see if there are too short. But wouldn't be a big issue to replace them later...

Later today I will start the work on the v-tail.

Looking good!
I wonder if that's not a tad too short/close for the link though (especially in crow brake)...?
Any comment on the general built quality of the kit, stiffness of fuse, wing, tail?

You are right. For crow brake it would be too short, but for ailerons it is just perfect.
No mm give away for saving air drag...

Except two little things general built quality is very good from a current point of view (--> wing plating uneven, one very little bump on an aileron close to the linkage position).

Wing fuse is very stiff, definitely!
And I assume the very light fuse will be stiff enough for this size of model as well (as this is my first mini-mouldie I have no compaison to other mini's).

More to come later about quality when build is finished and test flights are done.

Btw, I really like the implemention of the aileron/wing change .
No pesky resin nose, but nevertheless no gap at regular throws!

V-tail and fuse servos

V-tail section is finished. Was not much effort as the holes were placed perfectly by aeromod.
Had planned to make the carbon bars removable, but it seems that I did not use enough grease ...

With the ballast there is very little space in the fuse.
The 488 BB MG servos have the absolute max size for the Prodij HM, the MKS 450 digital would fit better (but were not available, except the two for the ailerons).

If both bras bars will be used in future in my fuse you have to replace the hole for fixing the main bar or you have to file of some of the smaller bar to get both into the fuse.

Because of the "larger" 488 BB MG servos I will file off some off the smaller bar to make life easier in future (don't like to fiddle about too much at the slope when I am flying in winter times and having windy 0C, -5C or -8C ).

Currently working on the servo tray...

If you cut away some of the ballast bar, won't the balance point shift?

I'm also building one of these up and the molded dimple on the fuselage is right on the CG, and the holes are drilled and countersunk in the brass bars to index on that dimple. I guess the CG would go forward though, so it wouldn't be that bad a shift. The fit is tight in the fuselage, I am using the MKS450's all around.

Hi Droydx,
that's right. I assume CG will move a mm backwards. If needed I will cut a bit from the end of the bar to compensate.

Interesting... Would there be more useful room in the fuse for ballast if you ditched the flap servo and went for a 4 servo wing?? Is the Prodij available in a version like that?
