The duratrax i ntelispeed 12t is rated at 8.4v max...what are the chances of it handling a 3s? You guys think it can handle 3s?

no chance. I wouldn't even try it. Even if you ran a seperate bec i still wouldn't go there.

Agreed, it'll end very badly. 3s fully charged is 12.6v, that's almost 35% more voltage than it is rated for.

Lets say if I were to try it with a separate BEC which one should i get? ratings wise...how many volts or amps it should be etc.

I'd have to check that as soon as I get home...so the BEC connects between the ESC and the battery?

no the bec is a battery eliminator circuit it plugs into the receiver to power the electrics by using a humpback battery pack.
Normally the bec is in the esc but if you ran a separate bec you would need to cut the red wire from esc to receiver. This is what is the most sensitive to over voltage.
What connects between the esc and battery is the LVC low voltage cut off, completely different thing.

I just added the 17 turn brushed motor and tekin rebel esc to the new RC truck i got.

I have a question. An over heating ESC can stop power supply to the motor? I run it for about a few minutes and suddenly the power starts to cut off to a point where its not moving at all...after waiting for a few mins it runs fine and same thing happens. When i touch the ESC it is very hot...I cant put my finder on it for more than lets say a few seconds. I dont think its the motor because the motor has a heatsink on it and i can touch it no problem. Maybe the 3s is got the ESC sweating idk..

I messaged a guy on rctech im trying to purchase a brushless kit from him. Its the...
castle sct esc with a 1406-1y 6900kv motor
Is that a good combo for a 1/10 4WD monster truck? It will also be paired with the 3s ofcourse.

6900kv is too much for off road, way too much for 4x4 offroad

That motor is way too high of a kv for 2s, nevermind 3s. You want something in the 3000kv range if you're going to run 3s all the time.

What feels hot? It could be all of the above.

The ESC is the only component that will actually stop from heat and then work again. If you over heat a motor to the point it stops running, its usually toast for good.

What truck is this in?

Just an FYI, 11 volts resting on a 3s pack is more discharged than you want. Under load it's probably dipping to 10v or lower. The lowest you want is about 3.5v per cell under load.

You should be getting a lot more than 5 minutes before dipping that low though, my stadium truck with a 4000kv brushless gets about 40 minutes of running on 4000mah. (I run 5000 mah packs, but try to never discharge beyond 80% of their capacity). Is your pack getting a full charge (up to 12.6v)?

The ESC is main thing getting super hot to the touch.....besides that after lipo incident where it dropped voltage below 8v total the battery wont charge above ~3.85 per cell...guessing its time for a new lipo.

If you can't get the pack above 3.85v/cell, it's definitely toast. Is the charger stopping automatically at that voltage, or is it timing out after charging for too long?

If the ESC is that hot, you're pulling too much power through it. You either need less voltage or a milder motor, or milder gearing.

Well this is weird...yesterday the charge was not going above ~3.85/cell after 15 mins of trying....today it charged right up to 4.20 each cell.

I ordered a 2S 5000 mah pack anyways. My next purchase is definitely a brushless combo.
