Why did you reduce the number of teeth on both gears?

Why did you pull the VXL system in the first place?

IMO, stop changing more than one thing at a time. Every time you do that you have no idea what change did what.

Your current primary gear ratio is 3.444:1 and the optional stock ratio (83/28) is 2.964:1, even 83/25 (3.32:1) is a bit taller than your current ratio.

The reason it's slower now is that you put a lower kv motor in, and put a shorter (slower) gear ratio on it.

The reason the motor is running hot despite this is because it sounds like a less efficient motor. It should be able to hit 50mph easily on 3s without being too hot.

Don't bother with a 550 motor, it's just more weight out back that'll make it harder to keep the front end down. There are plenty of powerful 540 motors out there that won't break the bank.

This combo is much more powerful than the VXL motor:

If you plan to run a 5000kv motor on 3s, you better be prepared for SHORT runs and a fan on both the motor and ESC.

i traded the velineon system along with the stampede for other rc stuff.

this motor has a 5mm shaft, and my local hobby store carry mod 1 or the mod 0.8 pinions....so I had no choice but to go with the 62t spur which was a 32 pitch and mod 0.8 pinion. i wanted to go with a 22t pinion but the guy working there recommended the 18t to go with the 62t spur. again this combo is meant for low weight 1/8 buggies.

the motor is not very hot I mentioned that earlier..its kinda warm but nothing crazy. I can still touch it and hold it forever with ease.

I will probably grab a temp gun for better monitoring.

that combo is nice btw. ill look into it.

83/28 is 2.964:1, 62/22 is 2.818:1. Since it's a lower kv motor, even 62/22 will be slower than the VXL motor on 83/28 gearing.

what do you think of the castle creations 4 pole 4600kv motor? thinking about grabbing that for the rustler or a future short course truck.

*edit* its a 1406 cc 4 pole 4600kv brushless.

short course trucks such as a sc10 or a 2wd slash can handle a higher kv motor am I right?

2wd short course trucks are basically just stadium trucks with narrower tires and bigger bodies/bumpers, same drivetrains.

You'll want to go back to running 2s for a 4600kv motor. Everyone that races 1/10th scale is limited to 2s, 3s is really overkill on a track for trucks this size.

The 4600kv castle motor is a nice one, just not ideal for 3s.

If you're just running on pavement, why would you buy a SCT? They're heavier and slower (lots more drag) than other 1/10th scale trucks.

You'll learn pretty quickly that shooting for high top speeds means more efficient (expensive) motors, and short runs.

I am not sure why, but the slash is at least a pound heavier than the comparable rustler. I would have guessed them to be about the same, must be the broader longer chassis on the slash. But I agree, I like the looks. Slightly more realistic looking. I have an HPI Blitz, the hpi 2wd short course.

Just read the specs to see what things weigh.

A losi 22T (which was designed to be heavier) is 1.87kg and the XXX-SCT is 2.04kg. The XXX-T was lighter than XXX-SCT, so if there was a 22 SCT it would be even heavier still. A 2wd VXL Slash weighs 2.56kg for reference, and a 2wd Stampede VXL only weighs 1.85kg.

Even if some figures are with a battery and some are without, a 2s5000mah hardcase pack is only about 300g.

I received the castle creations 1406 4600kv motor today.

this motor feels a little different than my other brushless motors I've had. it hesitates when I spin the shaft with my hand, like a brushed motor. is that supposed to happen with a brushless motor?

its pretty fast, a lot of torque too even with a 26t pinion which takes me to my next question; what size pinion should I use for a 4600kv motor? I lm using my old 83t spur now.

I was running it with 83/26 and it was running hot. what do you guys recommend?

Drop a few teeth and check again. I am sure you'll find the sweet spot

Which rc is this running in? If its the rustler I would think you won't have to get much smaller. If the 4x4 probably a bit smaller
