its finned on both ends....in the instructions manual they ask for you to remove the endbells (finned part) then insert inside the mount. After motor secured in the mount install the front endbell back on, and I think they want u to leave the back out...atleast that's how it looks like in the finished picture.

and yes I have the conversion kit in hand.Is the hv6.5 a good fast motor for a 1/8 buggy? spec wise, is there a better Motor than the hv6.5 on hk I can pick up?

*EDIT*

i have tried placing a non finned 540 motor with diameter of 35.8mm and it just won't fit. only bigger by no more than 5 mm I would day. so I'm thinking any motor that's 30 or close will fit...I don't mind the hv6.5 but I just need to know if there are any better motors on hk than this motor. if there are I rather buy one from there and not buy a used and abused hv.

The 550 can should be 36mm, not sure what's going on with your mount. In no way will the motor be 30mm diameter for a 1/8th scale buggy.. it'll be between 36mm and 42mm. Does the mount spread open to get a tighter fit on the can?

As for "better", since you're not racing there's no need to spend a ton on a motor. You do need to see what diameter you need first though. If the mount is for 36mm motors (like it should be), the you'll want a 3674 around 2200kv.

it is for 550 size motors but now I kinda know why they have stated the required motor to be the hv...im Damn sure the hv motor is around 33 in middle where the mount will hold. that's why they require the removal of the finned endbells on both ends which are 35.8mm.

that is why no other motor will fit unless you remove the can. or has to be something like 33 on diameter.

I modified the mount last night to hold an actual 550 motor and I'm in process of stretching it slowly. ill add a picture...but even when the extra bit opening the 550 is a pain to fit.

I have cut it through the middle to be able to stretch it more but this is made out of really tough steel it is not very flexible at all....even if I leave something in there to widen the opening overnight the next morning when I take it out it closes back up with a sudden snap

Do you have calipers to measure the actual diameters? I can't imagine the 550 is only 33mm outside diameter.

i thought it would be larger, a quick look online i found some ranging from 35 to 37.. I thought 35.8 might of been the can and the fins on the ends slightly larger, but it looks the same

mount didn't workout I'd have to look at the rc monster or castle creations mounts.

I recently installed a zd racing 80a esc Nd a 2700 kv motor on my rustler and with a 18/62 I'm getting top speed of 41 mph. does that sound right? this esc and motor combo is supposed to be for 1/8 scale.

also running on 3s

Sounds right with the 18t pinion. How are your temps after a good run?

after about 15 minute runs the motor is kinda hot, like not super hot bit i would say kinda warm. I touch it and hold it etc. the esc is good not really warm at all.

are there any specific kinda tires I can purchase for top speed?

I thought it would be cool, what motor is it? Have a link?
With an 80 amp esc, 3s and the right motor I would think 50-60 would be easy. Not a lot you can do at that speed, but I see the attraction :-)

its the zd racing b3656 2700kv motor..came out of their zd racing 1/8th buggies...not much info on it on the internet but according to a lot of owners its best not to go higher than 3s.

what do you think the reason is for such low speed?

this is slower than my velineon system

My original thoughts were that you should easily be ables to gear up a little. But if you are warm already I wouldn't do that. You may have reached this motors limit.

well I did already drop from 83 spur to 62 spur.

I'm thinking about getting a 550 tacon 5000kv motor for the rustler....some night say its too high of a kv but tacon listed rustler as compatible and many people are running with ease.

I don't have personal experience with the tacons, but the specs should be OK in a rustler. As always, keeps your eyes on the temps.

I've been hearing good things about them. BTW what I just realized and forgot to mention earlier is that I was on a 3s pack that was only charged to 12v. it was not fully charged to 12.6 and I'm sure that won't make that big of a difference but I'm sure some difference.
