So are we really saying that this unit from BEVRC is the EXACT same device (including firmware revision) as the acclaimed FJ-DVR-SD4 ??

No.. the firmware is different. Hardware is the same.
BEVRC has customized the firmware with their logo in the spash startup screen and they have removed the "motion detect" function. Rest all functions are the same.

THe quality of the recordings are quite good for such a small recorder.

In this case it's only a matter of time until someone uploads FPV-Japan's firmware onto it.....

I do not have BEVRC logo.
I have splash FPV-JAPAN in the middle of screen at start and then FJ-DVR-SD4 on low right corner...
No sign of BEV anywhere.

The plot thickens - bought mine at pretty much the same time as yours but it arrived with a battery. The FPV Japan model comes sans battery which for various reasons is shipped separately from the US; looks like you got one of those! BTW, bevrc.com or .net?

Mine arrived today. I have to say I'm glad I didn't pay $199 for it. It looks like it was a factory second from Japan-FPV or something.

It has scratches on the back of the case, only slight surface ones but it's supposed to be new. When I pulled it out of the box one side had some white residue on it (which wiped off). Also the wired remote on/off button looks like someone's kid made it and the white label on the battery was stuck on crooked.

Delving further in, the 2.5mm 4 pin plug for AV-in is a custom pin layout so you can't use a standard 4-pin cable. Standard is audioR-audioL-video-ground, BEVRC is +5v, video, ground, audio. If I want to eliminate the RCA plugs and go straight from my receiver to the unit I'm going to have to buy a 2.5mm plug and make a custom cable. EDIT: I've done this, the solder points on a 2.5mm plug are almost surface mount size.

Most disappointingly, there appears to be no 720x576 video mode. I have an NTSC camera. 640x480 produces a good image. 720x480 turns the circles in to ovals, and 720x576 records a 720x480 video, that has the same bad aspect ratio. I tried a PAL camera and got the same results. So in the end you can only record at 640x480.

Apart from that it seems to work well. The picture looks good (at 640x480), you can turn the time stamp on and off and it records through static.

Version says: B257.11.08.22

it appears that the DVR from BEVRC did in fact go back to 199. i used to be able to add it to the shopping cart and it would show up as 119, but in the last couple days its staying at 199 even in my shopping cart. unfortunate.

it appears this DVR has more limitations than what i thought at first. perhaps its not the best option? is there a better one for a comparable price tag? also, how many of these downfalls can be attributed to firmware and how many to hardware?
