The Tata's are Coming!!

http://johnharding.com/2011/01/26/mi...r-powered-car/

I know a guy who travels to India several times a year. He says these things are the real deal and work VERY well. They also get up and GO, being so light. The compressors need to fill them are not as expensive as you might think. They run on paintball gun tank pressures. Too bad GM or Ford didn't get involved with this technology

Maybe we can get Obammy to sign off on a rebate program. I would buy one to zip around my end of town with. Hell, I could go everywhere I need to in a fast golf cart. I like the pickup version, as long as I could get my butt into it

Yes, but the voice command uses a call center in India.

So its a big airhog.

They need to set it up to be charged from a 110 outlet instead of the 240.

Most homes have 240V readily available (water heaters, dryers, hvac, etc.)

So these things run on compressed air? Any idea on their range?

I don't think they are any uglier than any other tiny, alternative fuel car. They are small, yes. Ugly?? Maybe. No uglier than a golf cart

I imagine that some 'safety standards' would have to be relaxed before folks start driving air powered golf carts around the city.

I like the truck version. Wonder if you can fit 44's under it?

Yes, did you read the article??

An ex-Formula One engineer, Guy Negre, is the brains behind Tata’s air car, which will be the world’s cleanest car with zero emissions. It’s range will be 185 miles with a top speed of 68 mph. The vehicle will be able to recover up to 13% of the power used via a pneumatic brake power recovery system.

They meet the same standards as the Smart Car:

Tata is aiming to release the Mini CAT Air Car in August 2012 with prices starting at around $8,200, which is less than had been estimated previously. Due to its simple design and tubular chassis, the maintenance of these little cars will be extremely low. The concept is brilliant and the design simple—the MiniCAT will be on the road for all to see (and try out) very soon.

Toyota is also getting into the act.

Toyota’s Ku Rin, a little pencil-shaped rocket (3.5m long, but just 0.8m wide) recently broke the speed record for compressed air-powered vehicles by accelerating to 80.3 MPH (129.2km/h) running on compressed air alone. The Ku Rin generates electricity by expanding the compressed air using a reversed AC compressor.

Hmmmm.......I've been duped. When I saw "tatas", I thought this would be about...well...you know.....

I guess we'll just have to be happy with the "Hottest Woman" thread.

Yes I read it, that's how I know it is set up to charge from 220 instead of 110/115.

While most homes have 220 available, most don't have it in the garage...
