Congrats Daryl! You're taking up where Nut left off. He had a history there for awhile of missing fly ins with new little ones showing up.
Tell the Mrs congrats too, she did all the work. Now you have a little wingman, wonderful.
Guess I owe you a margarita!

Thanks Dave,
Actually went easier than I expected.

Working on the cowl flaps. I didn't have the foresight to mold them on the cowl, would have been easier and better. But that's water under the bridge now. I used 1/64 ply and glued them to the fuse body because I couldn't attach them to the cowl with the way I have it mounted.

Wow John as much as I love your jet builds I have to say I really have enjoyed catching up on your Spad build here. Solid craftsmanship all the way around. I have to say the foam scratch building going on today is some of the most impressive art work and engineering I've ever seen in model aviation. Thank you John for all the inspiration to so many of us.

Also, I really liked the mold work you did for the cowl. I have some EDF nacelles I've been laboring with in terms of the design - wire cut foam and wet layup or molded glass like your cowl. I think you may have finally convinced me to try a molded design. Thank you for the pictures and build log, it tipped me over the edge into doing it the way I wanted to but wasn't ready for on my own.

ANYway keep up the good work, your builds are always good to follow.

Thanks Eddie Appreciate the nice comments and glad you are enjoying the build.
If you find something that you might use, then all the better.

Thanks Peter

Have the flaps hooked up and working. Did them as I usually do with odds & ends from the shop. Used brass tubing. One to fit the wire, the bigger one to slip over and flattened on top. Then I drill them for the pushrods. JB Weld locks the two tubes together and holds them on the torque tubes. Using a HS-81 servo.
The middle section was severely weakened when I cut the torque tubes in so I used two sections of carbon tube to reinforce it.

OK, starting to get in the SEFF mode now. I leave next Saturday morning and have a few items to address. The T-33 has been plagued by rudder flutter at high speeds so I took it down from the ceiling to check it out.
But I have done some more work on the A-1. Finally got around to the aileron servo installation. All they need now are surface horns and pushrods.
Had to route the connector wire through the wheel wheel. After painting maybe it will look like hydraulic plumbing.
A week from now I'll be sitting around the tent with my buddies sipping on a cold one.

Here she is all together and on the scale. 5.5 lbs. I have to add pilot, cockpit, rudder and elev servos. I'm thinking a 6.5 lb airframe is doable. Checked the balance on it and it looks like the balance needs to be moved up about 6". A 14 oz motor plus it's extended mount and 6s-8s batts should be able to achieve my suggested CG. That would give an AUW of about 9.5 lbs. Still pretty light for this size plane but I hope the gear is up to it.

Love the shot looking up from the tail. Are you going to use a 4 blade prop on her? You have an incredibly low weight for the size. Im not sure a foamy kit would be that lite. I just look at my builds and they gain a few ounces.

Beautiful build... I still say she's an ugly bird but the build part is stunning.

Jeff,
I have a 4 blader that I bought, it's from the FMS model. Think it's 16". I'm not sure it will handle the watts of the motor I have for it. Probably maiden with a 2 blader and start hunting for a 4 blade that will work.

Hang in there Willsonman, we'll bring you around on the A-1.
