I have the Swift which is the same size. I use a power 10 and 2200 mah 3s and it balances fine. I would just go with your 2200's and see how she flies

That's what I figured I'd end up doing. I'll have to remove a little foam so the batteries length will fit in, and I'll "need" to buy a new plane to use my 1300's in.

Don't you just hate it when you have to buy a new plane? LOL

I have the SU-31. I asked Kevin from rcplanebuilder about the main wing. It's kind of course and the rest is smooth. He said its because of the mfg process when they cut the airfoil. Did you guys do anything to smooth the surface at all?

I didn't - they fly fine as is

Speaking of wimpy landing gears, does anyone know where to get replacements for the 1100mm Yak54? I keep bending mine back and flipping them around so they bend forward for the next flight, but I'm sure that will only last for so long. I guess I could always bend my own but I'm lazy and I'm not sure how good of a bend I could get in the middle.

I set it up with an e-flite 480 1020kv, 45amp esc, and turnigy mg90s servos. I got a couple of 1300 3s 25c packs to fly it with, but with the heavier servos in the tail it won't balance without adding weight, or switching to my heavier TP 2250 packs.

My 1100mm Yak was pretty tail heavy with 1300mAh batteries and it still is a bit with 1800's.

The main problem I had with the 1300's is that I get such short flights out of them. The first time out, I had my timer set for about 4:00 or 4:30 and my ESC hit the low voltage cutoff much sooner. I ended up putting 1350 back in them when I recharged. So much for re-using the 1300's out of my flying wing. So I bought some 1800's and they are better but still not giving me the flight times I want. Although I will say that I'm new to 3D and my flying style is more "sport" than 3D.

I even went so far as to put a spinner on it, but it was still going to need something like an ounce and a half of lead with the 1300's to even get in the ballpark on the CG. I've opened up the battery slot and can get my TP 2250's in without any problem, and the balance is just slightly nose heavy now, which means probably time to lose the spinner now. I still haven't had a chance to flip it into the air yet, but hopefully soon.

I don't know what the extra weight is gonna make it feel like in the air yet, but the power is there, with an apc 11x4.7 SF it was wanting to hover just over 1/2 throttle in the garage so I should be good, and hopefully it won't feel to "heavy" on the sticks.

Got in a few more flights on the Swift tonight. I keep liking this plane more and more. She sure does well in some wind

More fights on the Swift and SU-31 tonight. Winds around 10 mph. both of these fly well in the wind. Not really a lot of difference in them just flying sport, but the Swift is just a touch smoother. Ran a really low and slow flight just before dark on the Swift - she slows down very well and stays pretty stable.

Thanks Wolfe, I'll let him know. Sad for me, that kids learn faster than I do.

LOL He is already better than i will ever be - good for him - and you, for taking the time to get him involved in a hobby he can enjoy the rest of his life.

I started teaching assorted Grand Kids last summer - four of them ages 6 to 11 - they all did pretty well - hope to continue this summer.
