Which part of the wire do you find breaks on quad impact? Do you mean the stator lead wires coming off the coils into the 3 main lines? If so, I always epoxy at that joint, had a several motors fail there.
What size lipo do you think would work well with this setup on the 1811 2000kvs? I have 2 460 3s coming from another order. I was thinking some of these 950 2s. They're both around 45g.
Do you have a link to those cat's meow 3 blades?

The windings as they exit the stator are particularly weak and need reinforcement of any kind as that is preferable to none , i have had 2 go faulty inside the winding after a hard landing , out of a total of 12 motors i have 2 with bad bearings 4 on the quad 2 spare and the other 4 have had bumps were the winding has broken.
I use 950mah nanotech 2 cell or 1000mah 3 cell zippy on a bambucopter with a flying weight of 226.2g using 2 cell and 269.6g using 3 cell, either setup has more than enough power.

Best blades ive had so far , im sure there are many other retailers but i would shy away from HK in blades this size. I have 4 sets of HK's new blades on order that were despatched today thats 12 of the red and 12 of the black so i will see for myself if they are any good , it makes no real difference as i use those gemfan but its always handy to have spares and at the price like their other 5x3 blades if theyre bad i will just throw them in the bin.

Good idea, get HK to stock EPP guard kits.

Something around 2900kv on 2S, like the Turning 1811 or the C10. That's with 2 blade 5 x 3 props, 3 blade might bog those down a bit. I am not sure if you can get 6 x 3 onto the frame, have to wait until mine turns up to test it.

HK seem to be out of stock of 2900kv motors.

There is a nice Hacker 2900kv Hacker A10-12S - 2900kv

You can also use a 2000kv motor with a small 3S battery, just make sure you don't fry the ESC.

Ya, that EPP guard would make the set complete. Real nice. It would be difficult to make yourself.

With those motors, does the lower KV just mean they put less windings on it? I have several BW 1300 and 1500kv motors, and I swear they used all the same parts, just wound less wires on the 1300kv. The 1300 doesn't have more torque or can push a bigger prop, just less power in the top end. So the 1500 seems a better overall motor, and only like 2 grams or something heavier.
Are these small 1811 motors the same situation? The higher the KV the better and just watch your throtle if you feel its overheating?

Yes, the windings determine the kv of the 1811 motor, the higher the kv the smaller props and higher revs you have to use. I wouldn't go over 2900kv on this frame, I don't think the 3800kv version would be very good due to a lack of decent props smaller than 5x3. The 2000kv on 3S or the 2900kv on 2S seem to be optimal.

Is there no advantage to either 2 or 3s as long as the kv match up?
As a side, why not for example buy the 3800 with the 5x3 on 2s and set your tx throtle to cap at 75%?

2S is 33% lighter than 3S for the same mAh, that can be significant.

The 3800kv won't work with 5x3, too much drag, it will just overheat. It even gets hot with a GWS 4530 prop.
