Quadrotor for research. Build or Buy?

Hello everyone!

I'm doing a research about Autonomous Aerial Vehicles, and my objective is to make an quad-rotor autonomous.
I'm wondering if the best option is to build an quadrotor or buy one and modified it.

The quadrotor should have high payload (to put some sensors, like kinect or laser range finder).

My biggest problem is with the control part (stability). I really don't wanted to implement this module.

There is a big mess in my head right now!

Can anybody help me?

Hello n3m1s1s, thanks for the reply.

Do you know any good flight stabilization board that let me control it at a higher lever?

yes there are quitea few out there ) depending on your definition of "control it at a higher lever?"

i like multiwii code myself and can almost understand it lol

i also like the sound of the "rabbit" even though it stole multiwii code to fly then adapted it

i like free flight as it is a good basic but much better FC than KK and added bonus it to can run multiwii code

i really like timecop's naze32 FC that runs a port of multiwii code that timecop ported for stm32 based FC's

i like open pilot even though mine has not flown perfectly as yet ( not enough time spent learning about it yet so totally my fault NOT open pilots!) best gui i have ever seen and more thing to config than everything else it feels lol

you might like a fully setup DJI Wookong M (gps) or a rabbit ith the gps board coming out for it or even the free flight as that has a gps board coming out for it too?

Thanks again for the quick reply.

By "control it at a higher level" i was meaning that i need a board to provide stabilization to the quad, but still have to control it in a higher level to provide basic autonomous actions like follow an object or avoid obstacles. And i'm afraid that i can't manage that if the board has closed source code.

I will read more about the boards / codes that you provide me in your previous post.

If anyone else has more options to i will appreciate the help.

Thanks!
