Build Log
yet another scratchbuilt twin boom pusher

For my second fpv plane, I've decided to go down the well-worn path of the twin boom pusher.

Parts list:

RQ7 / twin boom pusher links:
Design and stability references:
Lessons/future ideas:
  • Square CF tubing (slow stick fuselages) might have been easier to work with
  • A Multiplex Mentor wing would have been a better choice. A built-up wing would be even better.
  • I could have wrapped the CF/FG interfaces with thread and then soaked the thread in CA for additional strength.
  • Use 2.5" pvc downspout for the fuselage

Cool!

The "twin boom pusher" seems to be a very versatile/adaptable design.
The more I mess with it... the more I like it.

Here's mine from awhile back... much smaller scale but that just shows how versatile the concept is.

I love twon boom pushers!

Just 2 of my 6 dual boom pusher builds:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1366238 - Minion airplane

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1348642 - Wraith airplane

They both fly great. Note the forward swept wings. This adds incredible stability.

shoot, you could probably find a .40 sized trainer wing for free. have more dihedral, more lift & prob 50-100sqin more wing to carry more batts.

Unsurprisingly, the fake camera dome does not have the greatest optics.

Nice planes!
I've been looking at my Super Cub and thinking about chopping off the fuse right behind the TE and adding booms for a pusher set up maybe add in a front section fuselage that would screw to the firewall as the stock cowl does.
Have to do some more thinking...

I've though of that. Hardest part would be figuring out how to get that weight forward. You have a good idea there with that "nose extension". If a gopro was being used, that would really help balance it out too.

I'm starting my own twin-boom pusher soon too. I'm using an e-flite apprentice wing, 10x10mm sq carbon fiber booms, re-enforced foamboard for tail, and probably a custom fiberglass fuselage "pod".

Been busy with my tricopter though...

I picked up some 1/4" aluminum arrow shafts to use as tailbooms. I should be able to mount them to the wing with part # 8871T31 from mcmaster carr. AUW should be around 48oz.

edit: the clamps seem too small.

edit: slow stick fuselage booms might be worth trying.
