Extreme flight Pantera 48" EXP, The Extreme Hybrid

So just over a year ago Chris Hinson of Extreme flight announced that they would be making a new 48" EXP plane that would be a hybrid. It appeared at SEFF last year and Tim Semerano got a video of it being piloted by Daniel.

So what do we know about it?

Well its a 48" and it's a vanquish inspired body, thats pretty much it at this point.

With the pictures provided by EF though it looks like it uses the MXS wing and short moment elevator, the rudder looks to be pretty close to your standard EXP as pointed out by Doc Austin.

So pictures

And video

Price/ETA
Unknown but I would guess it comes in at the same price as the current EF crop and I am hoping for a release in the next couple of months. I know I can't wait for this one and am eagerly waiting for the day when this link goes live

Could be an optical illusion, but the elevator looks bigger than other EXPs. It's also a little more rounded instead of squared off.

Good catch Doc, it does look rounded off.

The mxs has less of a rudder cutout than the pantera from the looks of it. It looks like the pantera has less area for the rudder than the extra and the edge.

Sooo...
The pantera may have the most surface are of the 5 48's now, crazy.

I'm not sure we can say it is a Vanquish fuse with an MXS wing. I am willing to bet that the whole thing was redesigned to new specifications.

"Vanquish inspired" might be more correct. For one, the tail moment doesn't appear to be as long as a Vanquish. Again, that could be an illusion.

I sure hope they get here soon.

Hey you already got some laser action a coule of weeks ago!

I do hope we get some more pictures soon. I know chris said it took them awhile to perfect the design. Kinda curious as to what those improvements were.

Looks like a mix of the 2.
I had a vanquish and loved it, but mine would stall at slower speeds really easy.
Based on the wing and tail area doesnt look like this one will.

This thing will not stall unless induced. The Vanquish is a pattern plane that can be coaxed to 3D. This is made for pattern and 3D and with the large control surfaces, it will almost stop before stalling. The video isn't that great being that the wind was blowing around 25mph or so, but I had a blast flying it last year and know that it will be a winner!

Hoping to get a little more info on the design of the Pantera.

Does the Pantera have a longer tail moment than the rest of the 48" EXP's?

Like Doc, I too really liked some of the aspects of the Vyper and have been waiting for the Extreme Flight Pantera hybrid for a while. Being an old 70's pattern flyer it would be fun to fly an old AMA pattern schedule, but then finish it off with a blender, throw in a few inverted harriers, harrier rolls and torque rolls. Never would have dreamed of doing that with my old Kaos or Jester. I like the covering scheme too, kind of has a little retro pattern in it.

Are you guys still thinking somewhere around SEFF for an ETA on these? Also there has been a noticable lack of video of this and the Laser. If you need video I bet my flying buddy Jase the Ace would be more than happy to help you with that. John does a great job with video camera too.
