Splash N Go's with a slow stick! Great fun but...
While flying my slow stick today, i took her for a walk along a path behind my house, as i wanderd around, i saw a huge puddle and got a great idea...
In the past 24 hours, we have got 105 CM of rain, a new record for Canada as far as i know. The ground was so dry and rock hard after 4 months without rain, that the water couldent drain and there was alot of flooding.
I flew round to the puddle and got the idea of skimming the watter with my wheels. I made a few pracice appoches, and wen't for the real thing...
The wheels just kissed the surfaced and it looked SO COOL! But ont he third go, the wheels caught and the plane sank almost all the way up to the radio gear! Thankfully with the huge ammount of power on my speed 400 motor, i yanked her out of the puddle, came round and landed...
The radio gear was wet, not bad though. The RX and ESC had a few water drops on them and the motor was fine, the Servo's however, were drenched....
I flew out the rest of the charge and noted no problems....
In my work shop, my rudder Servo started to act up. It was haveing some centering problems and it was changeing it's center point. I centerd the rudder and after a little while, it recenterd. while i was working on the ESC, I heard the servo move, and looked over and the Servo was off center agian, i recenterd it and 5 minuted later, it moved back and uncenterd yet again.
On a few ocations, the servo spazzed out and wen't crazy! I turned off the radio in a panic, and 5 miniutes later it was fine after i turned it back on.
I took apart the servo and blew on it hard incase and water was still in there. i checked over everything, re assemeled it, and it worked fine, centers perfectly and moves normaly...
Im glad it didn't burn it out, but im still a little scared to fly it. I would hate for the Servo to go nuts and frapp out in flight.
And ideas to why it did this? Both servo's work perfectly now. I never had a problem with the elavator servo though.
Think it was just the wet?

I flew (crashed) my Ele-Bee flying wing into an aqueduct, soaking all the electronics. It worked for a little bit, then later on the bench it would just spaz out. Then the radio fully died, the esc beeped just like no radio connected.
The first step is to let everything dry out well. The pop the case off your radio. Mine had a bit of white gunk on it, not much at all, and not conductive. It was apparently enough though, because after cleaning it with 90% alcohol (on the 'zone's advice), and letting it dry, it worked perfectly! Just brush it down nice and wet a couple times till it's really close. I doubt it's actually the servo that's weird, it's probably the radio, but you may need to open the servo and make sure it's dry inside, and maybe even clean it.

I flew it twice after the servo was mesisng up. flew fine, and i was flying in the wind and kepping the rudder very busy...

If you like flying over water - there is a risk
If you dunk your electronics - SHUT IT DOWN
Wash in alcohol.
Radio Shack sells, electronics cleaner - Isopropyl alcohol spray.
Afer you wash it down in 100% alcohol - Allow to dry for a day.
Then test it.

I have an electronics cleaner made by CRC that works wonders. Use it for cleaning dried soda/coffee from A/C control panels in Dodge Caravans. (Who would put a cup holder right in front of electronics in a moving vehicle?)
On a side note, this thread is almost 6 years old.
