How do you clean your transmitter?

I see people with 10 year old transmitters that are immaculate, then there is my 3 year old unit that looks um weathered.
Little bits of dirt and grime in all the nooks and crannies and even some surface rust on a couple of cap head screws.
I normally use a dampened cotton tip but that doesn't do much
I don't like the idea of compressed air and I don't really like solvents with chrome and plastics.
How do you clean yours?

Stehl,

I actually polished my older MX-22(same case as 9X2) with brasso, as it had a fair bit of corrosion. Then carefully cleaned it off with metho. I used cotton buds to do this.

Then I use a paint brush with Mr Sheen to put a silicon coating over it.

The silicon coating helps protect against corrosion.

Since changing to electric my tx doesn't really get dirty.

In the glo days I used a toothbrush and a 30/30/40 mix of meths/detergrent/water.

(before anyone chimes in it was an old toothbrush no longer used for oral hygiene)

I like Wazza's Mr Sheen idea, Ill have to give it a go tonight.
We clean the race cars with it, it good stuff.

With stuff like transmitter sticks getting full of grime I take them off and clean them in metho.

For general grime on the tranny I'll clean it with 50/50windex and metho. I get into the crevises with a toothbrush and a bunch of cotton buds.

You need something to cut through not only human oils but if you're flying with glow models, something to cut through their oils too.

Also, for general dust (where I fly it's pretty damn dusty) steal a make-up brush from the wife and keep it in your kit. Turn the transmitter upside down and give a gentle brush to get the crud off.

I never clean mine. I keep them in proper cases, and they just seem to be always clean?

You're probably not using them enough then.

Mine live in their cases, but they're seldom in there for long. I find every 6 months or so I have to give them a good scrub, but will dust them every 2 weeks or so.

Then again, maybe I'm just a filthy bastardo

Just tell her that if you're not using them regularly they'll actually degrade from non-use and probably fail, which means you'll have to buy new ones.

If you own an Aurora 9 then you know all about cleaning a Tx

I use a 1inch paint brush to clean the dust off (and out of) the darn thing after every session. I sometimes use these large cotton buds my wife gets from work (clean ones) to get into all the nooks and crannies. And believe me there are lots of them on an A9.

I haven't used any cleaning products as yet, except for the occasional bit of spit.
