Kinkade u must try that on your ornithopters at a smaller scale and with opposite claw effect! :P

That's cool but may be tricky with an ornithopter that has forward motion. I can see how the quad copter can hover down into position but with forward momentum it could be more difficult.

Agree, you are absolutely right when we speak about landing but for take off it will work if it's combined with some kind of jumping mechanism + an ornnithopter:

To avoid adding more weight to the ornithopter I made a spring loaded jumper.
Hand loaded and it stay on the ground.
