hanger 9 p- 40b warrhawk 50

well here it is, the hanger 9 p-40b warhawk.

first impressions

very clean finish and overall a impressive model.
comes with the options to be glow or electric. i will be doing this plane in electric
directions are straight forward and typical of hanger 9

stay tuned and feel free to chime in on this build

due to my location my electronic may be slow to get here so if any of yall get further then me please feel free to pick up where i leave off

now back to the p-40, after i glue in the CA hinges i went on to cutting the holes for the retrract. the give you a template to make it easy

As was discussed in the previous thread, can you tell what the purpose of the oversized cowl flap area? Is it that way for cooling?

What power setup are you going with?

the oversize cowl area dose not appear to be used for anything. when it was molded it was done in the open cowl position. i wish it was done in the closed position. in the electric set up on the manual the esc is located on top of the electric motor box instead of the bottom for cooling.

as far as my setup goes i haven't decided yet. i was hoping to hear what others have done for 50 size planes.

So are you installing the power 52 or the power 60? Also, are you going to run 5S or 6S?

I've run the numbers through ecalc on the 52 for a couple 3 blades. Also flight tested the 52 with the 14x9x3 on 4s in my 190. It flew it ok, probably about the same as the P-46 turning a 13x8x3 on 4s, maybe a hair faster. The 190 has way more drag with the open cowl than the P-40 will have though so it may actually be a good scale setup.
I just ran the numbers again for a 5s on the 52 turning a 13x8x3 and they look pretty good. It's saying 69 amps( my test numbers have been coming up 3-4 amps less than the calc) a little over 7 minutes run time on a 5s 5000ma, should give just under 10lb thrust and a pitch speed of 66-68 mph. Looks like I need to buy some 5s packs as well as some of the Graupner 3 blades to do some more testing.

I think the great setup would be the power 60 on 5s with a 3 blade prop. The same setup whats on my friends Kyosho P-40 and flies it great.

well whats cool about the spinner they give you has only one hole cut into it and the option of cutting hole for 2 or 3 blade props

Do you know what 3 blade he is running? I just ordered a couple of the 15.75x13x3 APC's and a 16x10x3 MAS. I think I'll spend the money I was going to use on the Graupners for a couple 5s packs instead.

Looking forward to this thread.Not certain when they arrive in australia hoping this month.
I've got all my motor [dulesky xm5050 ] electronics and retracts .I've used this setup in a cmpro 50 size p40 and its very quick.
How far are you going detail it cowboy.?

I built the 50-size Hanger 9 Corsair, and use the recommended .46 brushless motor on 4 cells, and it provides excellent scale flight; I have no desire to fly a scale plane at rocket speeds.

Staying away from a bigger and heavier power system keeps the weight down and the landings easy.

I would think their recommended Power 52 brushless motor would be more than adequate.
