63" Hawker Typhoon

Hi folks , I would like some advice regarding swinging a 24" 4 x bladed prop on this aeroplane. Is anyone else swinging a prop like this ona scale warbird? I think maybe a gear box with an inrunner may be the way to go?, but I have no experience of propellors of this size, so any help would be greatly appreciated. The aeroplane will weigh 7lbs approx (3.175 Kgs)

Thank you

Ray

Must be a typing error here I suspect. Theres no way a 24" anything will mount on a plane with a 63" wingspan. A four blade prop would weigh at least 2 lbs by itself at 24". Maybe a 83" wingspan??? 93"???
24" 4 blades are avialable from Vario Prop (22.6 actually), Zinger will custom make 24" 4 bladers, and Simprop has very $$ dadjustable scale props. FWIW Doug B

I calculated it as follows/...Typhoon prop is 14ft, time 12 to get to inches, then divide by 7?

did I have a brain fart here somewhere?

Could be :-)

The data I just found puts the Typhoon at a 41ft 7" wingspan, which puts your 63" model @ 1 to 7.9 scale which puts your prop at about 21". Even a 21" prop is going to be a bit on the big side you could safely go down to 18" and it would more than likely still look perfectly scale.

say you want to run 700W (100W/lb) and 60mph pitch speed. This would roughly be a 21x30x4 prop spinning at 2100rpm. Don't think such a prop can be bought.

Using a 4:1 gearbox, you'd need a Kv of about 750rpm/V on 4s. Outrunner territory.

Typhoon wing span is 41 ft 7in, x12 = 499 inches, divide by your scale span of 63 inches, and scale =7.92:1.
Prop diameter is 14 feet, x 12 = 168 inches, divide by 7.92 = 21.2 inches.
Most of the Typhoons had 3 blade props.
Only the very last of the production run had 4 blade props, as did all the Tempests. All still 14 ft diameter.

This will make your prop selection easier.
