My point is simply that I would prefer to know what the fan/plane is capable of, a dive isn't really helping determine that IMO.
I hear what you're saying. you want to see what the plane can do, unadulterated, how fast can it go, like a drag race.
As a spectator, I actually like the dive format better. It's already been pointed out many times that the fastest hardware is not necessarily the fastest plane, it also takes a really good pilot. Last year someone mentioned to me it actually takes a skilled pilot to point his pride and joy straight down at full throttle and hold it there allowing the speed to build up and then pulling out smoothly, not too soon, not to late. It's much more interesting to watch from my point of view.
