Maybe he's somebody's long lost brother.

Sweet flying, whomever it is

Speaking of flying... it looks like an awesome day out there.
I think I'm off to burn a few electrons and a bit of gas

I was able to maiden my Laser today. It got lots of compliments (at an unofficial 3DHS event nonetheless!)

Since the plane was tossed around in 15-25 mph winds, it was hard to get it locked in. I set the CG on the former just behind the wing tube, and that seemed to be about the right spot.

The only issue I had was it seemed anemic in vertical pullouts. Maybe I'm just used my 48 Edge EXP, which goes ballistic. My setup is: Torque 2814/820, 12X6E, Castle Phoenix 45 and 4s/2200 battery. I run a separate BEC for the servos.

Any suggestions?

Congrats on the maiden!

Does it do this with all your batteries? What kind of shape are the batteries in?
Are you running any sort of adapter, or extensions of the battery/ESC leads?

I've noticed I get less punch with a couple batteries where their internal resistance is higher.
(Probably from letting sit fully charged, which I know is a no no)

I also see it when using an adapter on a couple batteries that I haven't put a Dean's connector on yet.

On my 'good' batteries with the right connector, it seems just fine.
Also, are you sure your EP's are calibrated with that Castle?
Not sure how those setup, but make sure you're really getting your 100% full throttle signal I guess is what I'm saying.

There is no reason in principal why the laser pull out should be any different from the Edge if both models are running the same hardware, weight of both planes is near enough identical, I'm guessing you are using the same batteries in both?

As noted in the last post it may be worth checking that your endpoints are properly calibrated. Castle have unusual procedures to follow to calibrate their ESC's.

For sure my Laser punches out vertically like the proverbial 'scalded cat' but I'm pulling a fair few more watts that the stock set up and spinning a bigger prop, having said that, the stock set up shouldn't be sluggish either.

Are you running a Xoar on the edge? I switched my APC on my Extra (with the torque setup) to a Xoar and the difference was amazing!

Yep, the Xoar does give a fair bit more thrust, they pull a fair few more amps too but the motor should be good for it. Might be pushing the 45A ESC a bit hard through.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Yes, I am running an adapter between the battery and the ESC, but I was on the Edge, too. I am also using the same batteries. They each have about 100 cycles.

The ESC is the same one that was on the Edge. Not the same model, the same unit. All the gear was pulled from the edge and put in the Laser. The Edge had a foliage encounter about a month ago (RIP). The only new item in the mix is a new APC prop. I am pushing about 40 amps with this setup.

I changed the bearings out on the motor, too.

End points are set to automatic, which is also how it was set on the Edge. I certainly could try setting end points. I run fixed end points my 74 Edge and Osiris now. I seem to be getting plenty of RPMs on the prop, although I haven't measured them yet.
