I ran five packs through the Laser today. My friends were worried that I was too brave with it too fast, but the plane is just that good. It's very different and has it's own characteristics, but it is so solid I loved it right away. It is a lot like the Extra in it's precision, and a lot like the MSX with it's tumbling ability and pitch authority. I will probably put an HS5065 on the elevator so I can bump the throw up to 88 degree using the long hewavy duty Dubro arm.

One thing that was a bit shocking was how the Laser transitions from a blender right into a KE spin. If you manage the energy just right and hit the timing, it throws the ass over the nose so violently and quickly that it's a bit scarey. As far as a conventional KE spin, the Laser does those really well too, and it is one of those moves where it is virtually indistinguishable from the Extra EXP.

Harrier is real nice and the plane has no bad habits. Some of the build is a little different, but it flies very, very much like an EXP. Very. From what I can tell so far flying it in 15 mph winds, it is a little bit of Extra, and a little bit of MXS, plus a little bit of it's own.

But remember, it's an EXP and it flies very much like an EXP. Very.

The important thig is that I liiked it right away, and even though I was so nervous flying the plane I have dreamed about for 30 years, I was completely comfortable and knew what to expect from about 15 seconds into the maiden.

Unfortunately, none of my video guys could make it, and tomorrow is the Indy 500, which is sort of like Cristmas Day around here. We'll try to shoot some video tomorrow afternoon.
Ok... I'll be the guy to ask. I've got an 48" Edge-EXP how does this plane fly different from that one?

Would you say your edge and mxs fly differently?

Yes.
The Edge feels the most stable in low/slow of all my planes, but does everything well.
My MXS likes to go fast, and is violent in tumbles/spins, but for me, it's not as good at the low/slow as the Edge.

And I think that's where this is going to fit into, it may track like the extra, tumble a bit better but not as violent, and 3d a bit better than the extra.

So it fits between the extra and the mxs and still be an exp so its good all around but put all the planes next to each other and they fly differently.

I got it at 7pm yesterday and stayed on it until it was done. I didn't get the decals done, but I had it ready to fly at 11:30.... and I build really slow. Once you get the tail on and the surfaces hinged, it's just a matter of assembling things.

On my Laser I used the power system and receiver from my last blue MXS. This power system sounded like any other Torque in the MXS, but in the Laser it is very quiet. It wasn't just me because several people commented on how much quieter the Laser is than my other planes. Since this motor screamed in another plane, it's got to be the Laser itself that is so quiet, but I couldn't tell you why.

My only possible explaination is that the firewall is a little different and has a much bigger hole for air to escape out the back of the motor. Maybe the air reverberates a little more in the other EXPs. That's all I've got.

Nothing earth shattering, just reacting to customer feedback.
Just more of a reason to buy EF products!!! You guys never rest!! Keep'em coming Chris!!

I've updated my live, in-progress Laser blog report with a flying section. Most of it I have already posted here, but we're going out later today to hopefully shoot some video, and I will add more thoughts after that. There was so much wind yesterday that I am sure I can push harder and discover a lot more with today being calmer.

So far the Laser project has gone much better than I could have possibly hoped for. You expect a little glitch here or there, but so far nothing. I've made no chances, and once i got the battery where I wanted it, all my trims ended back up at zero. The weakest link in this whole thing is going to end up being the pilot.

From strictly a selfish standpoint, I am hoping there will be one or two Lasers left after the initial feeding frenzy, so I can get another one. I think this one will be just as big of a fav as my Extra EXP.
