3-D Choice - Tantrum or G-480 Groove?

I am christmas shopping (with list) and need some help deciding on a Tantrum or Grove-480.

I have a Hangover which I really enjoy but am looking for FULL
3-D bird.

I like that the Grove is larger, however I would be able to use my existing E-tec 3s lipolys with the Tantrum.

I also have a new Razor 2500 that would go nicley in the Tantrum.

Which one is a better performer? Will they both do a full range of 3-D manuvers?

No, I cannot get both. Nice thought though

If what you are looking for is a 3D only bird then the Tantrum would be the way to go. The Groove is capable of 3D maneuvers at a lower wing loading but will also fly very precise pattern/IMAC maneuvers. The Groove is not however a "true" 3D plane in the sense that the Tantrum is. The Groove is a very solid IMAC style plane that will 3D in the the hands of a good pilot (much like the 33% and larger IMAC planes).

FWIW whatever you decide the batteries and motor you have are very compatible with both planes as the Groove is designed around the Hacker b20/ Razor 2500 series motor. The batteries would have to be 3s2p to handle those amps.

I fly 35% planes :-D. I love doing tailtouches knifedge spins, blenders (real BLENDERS). Would the groove do lomcevaks? Also what is the site for the groove! Basically what I'm trying to say is would this perform like a giantscale aerobat?

This has PLENTY of vertical.

I figure that my new Razor 2500, 6:1 gearing turning a 12 x 8 prop would work well in the Tantrum using my existing Etecs.

Your Hangover setup would be perfect for the Tantrum. The lower wing loading is ideal. The Razor 2500 is a 20 amp motor and the Etec 1200's 3s are good to about 10-12 in burst. You'd 3s2p for the 2500.

Those batts are fine for the 2500. How is it geared? maxon 4.4:1?

Its not the 2500a, just the ungeared 2500.

I plan on a GWS 6:1 with 12 x 8 prop.
I don't want to put all that weight in the Tantrum though. Will probably look for a Razor 400 so that I can use the same setup that is in my Hangover.

This groove looks even more enticing. I am just a little weary from getting ripped of by dave thacker. He's a good guy but the radical rc edge doesnt 3d it just floats. Coming from an experienced pilot that plane is just horrible!!! I lost 600 dollars into that plane and I don't want a plane that will fly like poo.

TeamSME 40%, 5% whats the diff? Baltimore Greenbelt, Maryland, United States Joined Jul 2003 1,284 Posts	This groove looks even more enticing.
