Question
Specktrum modules for Futaba radios are they BNF capable?

I have a Futaba 10CHP w/ the stock 72MHz module in it. I'd like to buy a Blade mQX BNF quadcopter, but I'm not sure if the Specktrum modules will allow me to do this. The mQX uses DSM2/DSMX technology and there's a few Spektrum modules that are Futaba compatible, so I was just wondering if anyone had any knowledge on this issue?

Yes it will... If you can find one. You need the DM9 that is the same size and shape as your 72Mhz module, not the module for the 12/14 radios.

I just saw on Spektrum's site that they have a DSM2 AIRMODULE that comes with an AR9000 Rx. It says Futaba compatible, and uses the Futaba plug on the back of the radio so it looks as if size is not an issue. The module is a DM8 from what I can see in the picture. Any thoughts on this?

Do not get a DM9, the module has to be rectangular and say DM8.. It will work with all dsm2/dsmx BNF planes and receivers... Also dont believe anyone that tells you 'its coming in stock soon' , you need to scour the F/S forums and Ebay for one.. Expect to pay around $75-$90 for the module alone...

Your best bet is to post a WANTED thread in the F/S forums for one.

The module works very well with the 10C, as I have and use that combo myself...

@ Evan D, Pach, and Coriolan : thanks for your help. I now have several options from which to choose from. I've seen a few of the AR7010, and AR9000's on various sites, in stock. I suppose if there's no real benefit to to AR9000, I'll just go with the AR7010 version.

I wouldn't wait, I bet Lynxmotion sells out quickly now that people can see where to buy them. The price is VERY good too at $85

Yeah, just to show how ridiculuous the price on modules can be, this one is currently bid up to $152, with 3 days left. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Spektrum-DM9...item27c3b87ef0
And no its not mine.

@village idiot: I just bought one last night. At $85, it was the cheapest around, even after their ridiculous shipping charges ($14 for UPS ground). I'm pretty stoked about this module, regardless. I wanted to get a 2.4GHz module for my Futaba radio, and buying Spektrum's module will let me do BNF. Hooray!!

I hope its true, I've seen similar eta's before and nothing has been in stock.

But, I did see Andy Kuntz of Spektrum make a post about availability recently, so hopefully they will arrive in May.

For those wondering, here's a follow-up. I've been using the Spektrum module in my Futaba radio for about 2 months now. Works like a champ. I'm going to swap out the little 6110 park flyer Rx that my quad came with, for the AR7000 that came with the DM8 module I got from Lynxmotion. I like the diversity aspect of the AR7000 and hope I can get a little more range with it and hopefully eliminate some of the transmission drops I've had- resulting in a few low level crashes and one crash from about 250' up.

I bought a Spektrum DM8 module for my 9C especially for micro BnF models. I did a deal with the LHS owner to remove the receiver it came with which was no use to me. I was happy and so was he as he could sell it for more than the amount he knocked off. The ultra-chaepo light-weight Spek clone RXs go well in my own-designed indoor models. The system works well enough but I will always revert to FASST for anything big that flies outdoors.

A.

I hope if they bring the modules back that they will keep the approximate $30 price. Would be nice to have DSMx too, even if it required the user to know that the receiver was DSMx and had to flip a switch on the module to make it happen. Since this has been done with the Microstar2000 and Turnigy 9x I don't see why the onboard MCU 9that turns the PPM into data) couldn't do this.
