Mini AC & 2 Meter ??

Need help or suggestions concerning powering a 2 meter sailplane.

My main question concerns using a Mini AC 1215/16 with a 6:1 gearbox on a light 2 meter sailplane. I will use 8 cell KAN packs.

Hobby Lobby claims this brushless motor is the size of a "280" with the power of a "480". This is a 1.7 oz. motor.

Anyone tried this motor in a sailplane?

I would like to put this in a Sky Bench Aerotech 2M Lil Bird.

damned good motor from what I've heard. Whats the ailplane weigtht?

If its 480 power should haul up to 30oz up allright.

I'm using the miniAC extreme 6:1 (more power, more rpms than the /16) on 2S lithium. it's in a 25oz AUW 1.6m sailplane, climbout is good, 45-60 degrees. I'm planning on trying a 3s setup to get the power up. I like my climbouts vertical

I think a 3s3P pack of etec 1200's, with the extreme 6:1 propped up to 12x8 or so (30+A) is the way to go. or, 8-9 cell 1700aup if you want a cheaper battery pack.

on a 30oz+ airframe, I think the /16 is going to be dissapointing after spending all the money... the gearbox is very noisy, btw.
