Build Log
askman's 2 Axis Belt Driven Camera Gimbal Nex and APC-S Camera

So i got a package today and for the first time in a long time I actually had time to build something. I have 2 RC-Carbon Y-6 Frames, 6 sunnysky avroto clone motors, an extra HFPro board, 30a Hobbywing ESCs a boat load of APC 11" and 12" SF counter rotating prop sets all waiting for me to build them!!! Not to leave out my 25 deans T-connectors that I will be soldering on to my batteries... I am tired of EC3s

So with all that on my plate I decided to open that box i got today and put everything else on the back burner.

I started and completed the build in about 2 hours..... it was fairly simple and all the parts went together with out any modifications.

The landing gear and vibration dampeners were easy to setup, i did need to add my own screws and nuts to attach and secure the vibration dampeners.

so enough of the talking and on with the pictures. Oh and I am hoping to attach and configure it to my existing HFPro Y-6 tomorrow and I will try and get some video.....

okay, got it mounted.

I made a Y to run the servos off 6v or 7v and I have a problem in some of the wiring... so I have the roll on 6v and the tilt on 5v.

I also need to tun the mount via the hoverfly setup utility.

Look forward to seeing the results when you have it tuned.

The roll comp was bad. At 1:16. Even the dog could not bare to watch any longer.

Nice looking mount buddy. Can't wait to try out the DSLR gimbal/LG that Askman is making for me. He does good work.

latest video.... i can really see the potential.... just need to isolate the FC better or balance motors. Turnigy 2830s are nice for $$ and power:weight ratio but they seem to be quite bad on vibrations.

Test Flight after balancing props again! (4 min 57 sec)

I have a FY-30a I might mount to the Gimbal to see if that is better.

That must be frustrating, to be that close. I know the video will look great when you get it worked out. It looks good now, except for the vibrations.

okay guys I am making progress... you can really see the potential of the gimbal in this latest video.... it is not perfect (YET!) but it will be soon. I was really banging on the sticks in all four directions and flying in my ground effect almost the entire time with walls and cars near bye creating all kinds of turbulence and other than a little shaking it looks quite good!

I believe my 4s5000mah battery. nex-5 and the gimbal weight is too much for the 6 vibation isolators and that is causing them to squish too much. I could add 2 more, but i dont have any more.... I do have 6 others that are higher weight ratings.... might cause new problems, but tomorrow I will switch them out and see what that looks like.

Video should be live in about 1 1/2hrs..... slow upload speeds tonight!
Progress with the Askman gimbal nex-5n HoverFly Pro stabilized multicopter test flight (6 min 56 sec)

thanks for all the help guys

I only use four. They don't squish too much. What happens is when you put them together you have to put the side with the bolt on first. Then you put on the nut.

The reason is that if you put on the nut first then out on the bolt the bolt will twist the rubber isolator. That's why they look squished.

Also make sure you battery plate is not banging on anything and your battery cable is loose. Anything that touches the battery plate can transmit vibration.

yeah is a good point.

my battery cable is tight.... i build my harness not for the gimbal.... so that might be part of it as well.

i installed the isolators like you described.... however it is possible that I twisted them too much..

what size battery are you using?

Newest video. Still dealing with vibrations at hover. Got some supplies in today so tomorrow I will go to work. Thinking about salvaging my droidworx landing gear rails and vibration grommets to use on this....

major improvement. you are getting close. not bad for such a low light condition. you can really see how it has smooth stabilization. no jerkyness. nice flying

btw, I sent you 4 more isolators with the pan unit yesterday and new base plate for the camera.

well. I am finally getting my website put together. www.AskmanProducts.com I just got the barebone structure up. I will add to it as I have time. I am building samples this week to take pics. (and probably next week as well) lot of combos. while non custom multicopter stuff will be sold through gary's and dji-usa website, I will handle all the rest directly. (airplane, pole, etc)

I will update things on my blog here as well.
